IIM Bangalore was established in 1973 as a public institute. It has 108 full-time faculty members, about 1,200 students across various degree-granting programmes, and nearly 5,000 annual participants in executive education. It has been internationally accredited by the EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS). The most popular IIM Bangalore courses are its two-year MBA and Post-Graduate Programmes in Enterprise Management, Public Policy and Management, and Business Analytics. The institute also offers Ph.D courses along with two fellowship programmes - the NS Ramaswamy Pre-doctoral Fellowship and the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF).

However, if the reviews of students on the internet forums are to be believed, there are some gaps in terms of manageable workload. The class tests are sometimes conducted on weekends, and getting a good sleep often becomes a luxury for students.

NIRF Ranking: From Great to Still Great!

IIM Bangalore Academia & Batch

IIM Bangalore academic cycle consists of four terms in a year. Some of the specific IIM Bangalore courses are held on Fridays and Saturdays. Students also have the choice to enroll in elective courses offered across various courses in the institutes between Monday and Saturday. Credits are used by the Institute to determine the weight of a course for both core and elective courses. The typical value of a course is three credits. The general rule is that a three-credit course requires around 100 hours of work, with 30% of it in the classroom and the remaining time for preparation and assignments. Core courses are available during the first year. During the second year, elective courses are available. 

The course pedagogy at IIM Bangalore includes classroom lectures, collaborative discussions, online (broadcast) sessions, case analyses, individual and group projects, role plays, live projects, and business games. The medium of instruction for all programmes is offered in English. 

IIM Bangalore Total Courses

IIM Bangalore admission is offered at a total of 3 levels - MBA, PhD, and Diploma. MBA is offered for 4 specialisations, namely General MBA, MBA in Enterprise Management, MBA in Business Analytics, and Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Public Policy and Management. A total of 10 specialisations are offered under the PhD programme.

There are over 500 seats available for MBA programmes at IIM Bangalore. The seat intake increases almost every year. A total of 531 seats are available for the MBA/ PGP course. However, for the MBA in Business Analytics and MBA for Working Professionals specialisations, there are only 70 and 80 seats, respectively.

Our Take

Even though there are not many courses offered at IIM Bangalore, the MBA specializations offered are usually in demand and popular. If we talk about seat intake for MBA/ PGP, 500+ seats are relatively fine as compared to other institutes. However, we believe that the institute should increase its yearly intake for the Business Analytics and PGPEM courses, which are two of the most in-demand specialisations nowadays. 

IIM Bangalore Infrastructure

Classroom:

IIM Bangalore has a state-of-the-art campus with modern classrooms that are equipped with the latest technology. The classrooms are designed to facilitate interactive learning and are well-maintained.

Auditorium/ Seminar Halls:

IIM Bangalore has several auditoriums and seminar halls that are used for hosting guest lectures, conferences, and other events. These halls are equipped with the latest audio-visual equipment and can accommodate a large number of students.

Labs:

IIM Bangalore has a number of labs that are used by students for research and projects. These labs are well-equipped and have the latest software and hardware.

Library:

IIM Bangalore has a well-stocked library with a wide range of books, journals, and other resources on management and related subjects. It is located in an independent building of 55,000 sq ft. spread across four levels. Its electronic collection includes about 101 resources accessible 24x7 on and off campus to its faculty, research scholars, and students. The library is also equipped with computers and other facilities that students can use for their studies.

Internet:

IIM Bangalore has a high-speed internet connection that is available to students throughout the campus. This allows students to stay connected and access the information they need for their studies.

Hostel:

IIM Bangalore provides on-campus hostel accommodation to all its students. Accommodation is provided through 16 hostel blocks, one executive residential block and, one executive accommodation at the Management Development Centre (MDC). Students have mentioned that they are provided with well-appointed single rooms in the hostels. Some of the facilities available at the hostels are 24x7 internet connectivity, fully automatic washing machines, a music room, a recreation room, and.
laundry & ironing services.

Cafe/ Hang-out:

IIM Bangalore has a number of cafes and hang-out places where students can relax and socialize. These places offer a variety of food and drinks and also have facilities for students to play games and watch TV.

The IIM Bangalore summer placements/ internships for batch 2022-24 have concluded successfully. 539 offers were secured by 530 students during the summer placements 2023. 529 offers were accepted out of 529, and one student chose not to participate in the placements.

IIM Bangalore Placements

IIM Bangalore has successfully conducted its placements for 2023. As per the placement statistics released by the institute, a total of 606 offers were made, and 512 students were placed. The average package offered to students was Rs 35.53 LPA. Some of the top recruiters that visited campus for IIM Bangalore placement 2023 were Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Adobe, Deloitte, Oliver Wyman, Vedanta Kearney, etc.

The placement for IIM Bangalore is decent. Placing 512 students out of 606 offers shows that the IIM Banagalore placement percentage is 85%. The packages offered are also decent, but we believe it can improve in terms of the highest package being one of the best management institutes in Asia. All of the recruiters that visit campus for placement are top-tier, which shows the institute focuses on the careers of its students.

IIM Bangalore Diversity & Representation

IIM Bangalore excels when it comes to diversity and representation. It has a dedicated cell known as the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) to handle campus diversity. Through the diversity programme, the institute focuses primarily on diversity in terms of disabilities. These disabilities include visual/hearing impairments, locomotor disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and other disabilities such as thalassemia.

Male: Female student

The diversity at IIMB in terms of gender is also plausible. Every batch of the institute aims for a 25% intake of female students. There is an excellent balance of male and female candidates in different streams, as shown in the report below released by IIMB:

Our Take

The focus of IIM Bangalore in terms of students with disabilities is excellent and one-of-a-kind. It is the first-ever prominent university that focuses on this diversity category, and we give it a plus point for this. Having a rule of reserving 25% seats in every batch for females is also one of the plus points of the institute. Overall, IIMB excels greatly when it comes to diversity on campus.

Students are expected to work hard and deliver high-quality work. This means that social life at this institute can be limited. Students are often busy with their studies and extracurricular activities. Also, the competition is fierce. Students are competing with each other for top grades, internships, and job placements.

Overall, IIM Bangalore is a great place to study and get a world-class education. However, it is important to be prepared for the challenges of academic rigor and a competitive environment.
