Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship is a scheme introduced to provide financial support, recognition and assistance to deserving female students who come from minority sections of the community in India. This scheme was previously known as Maulana Azad National Scholarship and was launched during the service of the then Prime Minister of India (Late) Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Hazrat Begum Mahal scholarship is a national-level scholarship that was launched in 2003 during the National Conference of Educational & Economical Development of Minorities in New Delhi.

Maulana Azad Education Foundation, a non-profit organisation supports students of minority communities to fulfill their basic right to education. As per Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992, Muslims, Jains, Christians, Parsis, Sikhs and Buddhists are classified as minority communities. Thus, this scholarship aims to offer financial assistance to meritorious female students of these communities. Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship amount of INR 10,000-12,000 is provided not only for admission but also for course fees, syllabus books and other allowances. To apply for the Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship, there are different criteria such as income, merit and more. So, to get the in-depth details, check the pointers below:

• Only for girls or female students: This scholarship is only for female students studying in India, who come from minority communities and are not financially strong enough to continue their studies. 
• Only for minority communities: Muslims, Christians, Jains, Parsis, Sikhs and Buddhists are the only minority communities who can apply for this scholarship.
• Classes 9th to 12th: Female students studying in classes 9th to 12th are eligible for the national scholarship.
• Minimum score of 50%: The candidates must have secured a minimum score of 50% in their previous class.
• Annual family income: Students’ total annual family income should not exceed INR 2 Lakh.
• Applicable for two students in one family: This scholarship can be accessed by only two students of one family.

Note: The female students receiving any scholarship under central or state government schemes are not eligible for this national scholarship. If there is any academic gap due to any reason in the schooling of a student, the scholarship will be cancelled or suspended. It will also be discontinued in future.

The application process for the Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship is simplified by the Maulana Azad Education Foundation (MAEF) which enables students to apply only through online mode. • Step 1: Go to the official National Scholarship Portal (NSP) website at scholarships.gov.in.
• Step 2: Students applying for this scholarship for the first time, must register themselves by filling out the Student Registration Form available on the NSP website.
• Step 3: Then a page highlighting all the guidelines regarding the scholarship will appear. Students are advised to go through each of these carefully.
• Step 4: After checking all the guidelines, click on the continue button to start the registration process.
• Step 5: Fill all the required details in the form and click on the register button. 
• Step 6: Students should log in to the scholarship form through their contact number and date of birth. 
• Step 7: Then, select the scholarship name as Begum Hazrat Mahal Scholarship. 
• Step 8: Before filling out the form, students must keep ready all the required documents. They will need to upload bank details, income certificate, marksheet and other documents.
• Step 9: After filling out the application form, recheck the details and submit the form. 

Students eligible for the Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship need to keep all the required documents with them before filling out the application form. It is advised that the size of each document should not exceed 200 KB. The NSP application portal will accept the documents only in JPG, PNG and PDF formats. So, to avoid last-minute hassle, students are advised to scan and keep all the documents in the suggested format and size. Check out the required documents below: 

• Recent passport-size photo of the student.
• Result of the last examination attested by the school principal.
• Photocopy of student’s Aadhar Card.
• School Verification Form attested by the principal.
• Self-Declaration Minority Community Certificate, if they are 18 years of age. Students below the age of 18 years must provide a Community Certificate attested by the parents or guardian. 
• Income Certificate or Proof of Income of Parents or Guardians provided by a competent authority that is recognised by the State or UT Administrations.
• Self-attested copy of bank or postal account passbook. The bank or postal account must be under the name of the student, it can be either a single or joint account with their parents.

The selection process for the Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship is based on the merit or score of the female student in the previous class. Applicant must have scored at least 50% in the last examination and ensure that the low-income criterion of total annual family income of INR 2 Lakh is fulfilled.

Selected students will find their names in the merit lists released by the authority. However, it should be noted that state-wise and community-wise quota is fixed based on the minority population of the state as per the 2011 Census.

Each State and UT is allocated a fixed number of quotas based on the minority groups’ population in that region as per the 2011 Census. If there is a surplus quota left over in any State/ UT/Community after the merit list is declared, then its balance quota will be allocated to the same community of another State/UT.

This National Scholarship is suggested to be announced every year in July and the application deadline is expected to be in September month. Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship 2024 dates are not out officially, so we are providing the tentative dates. Check below for the tentative dates:

There is no renewal of application for the Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship. Students of classes 9 to 12 can apply for this scholarship, so to enjoy this scholarship award in all classes, they need to apply for a fresh application form.
