Students Activities & Clubs

NSS Club -

The National Service Scheme (NSS) was introduced as a separate wing of our college 6 years back. Ever since that day our objective was primarily to not just believe but essentially to be the change. To form a group of one hundred loyal, socially-giving members who tirelessly strived for that one perfect year when all went right and to ensure the same for the remaining years to come.

After a successful inauguration ceremony in August 2013, under the guidance of the Program Officers, Mr. Anant Tarse and Mr. V.B. Rao, the first event organized by our council was to St. Catherines Home (an Ashram) on Independence Day. At the ashram close to 70 of our members got to interact with underprivileged girls most of whom were orphans. Some of the girls were victims of child abuse, some who were under the supervision of alcoholic relatives and some of whom had witnessed tragedies even murder at a tender impressionable age. We got an uncorrupted insight into their former conditions before the ashram volunteered to take them in. Next was the two-day camp at the Magnolia village. The main objective was Road-Levelling and Tree plantation. Next were the events organized during the college Technical Festival Crescendo. The First named 'Mumbai-Behind the Scenes'. For this event, the participants were given a social or ecological issue on which they had to perform fieldwork and present their research in the form of Presentation, which included an appropriate and practical solution for the same. 17 teams from other colleges throughout Mumbai showed a keen interest for this event making it a Mega Success. And the second being 'On the Spot Skit'. Topics, which had a sense of social awareness were given to the participants. The participants had to present the given topic in the form of a Skit.

After a short hiatus from NSS events during our end-sem, the council was gearing up for a 7 day camp to a village name Phalsap in Raigad District organized from the 19th to the 25th of December. 43 of our members along with our Program Officer went as a delegation on behalf of our college. We built 5 bands (small dams) and planted, fenced and watered over 300 saplings.

As soon as college reopened, in the second week of this semester, we had organized for a seminar on bone marrow replacement where the speaker Dr. Ramesh Uttamchandnani spoke on the immediate need to raise awareness on stem-cell donation which is a cure for Blood Cancer. The second event in the even semester was a seminar on HIV Stigma and Discrimination which was conducted by Mrs. Meena who herself is HIV positive. She shared her life experiences and the way she faced and overcame with the discrimination from the society and her family. Nextly we organized a Blood Donation Drive in collaboration with Holy Family Hospital. Around 100 donors came forward and made a major contribution by donating their blood and helping the ones in need.

The final event of the academic year was organized on the 22nd and 23rd March 2014. And it was the second two days camp held at Bordi. The main objective of this camp was village survey and village cleaning. The work of NSS was appreciated by the Sarpanch of the village.

With the moto of serving the society in all the possible sense and helping the strength of India, the Rural India develop, NSS will continue to serve the society with its Youths
