About Indian Institute of Remote Sensing

The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun is a unit of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space under the Government of India. It was established in 1966 and is a key player in training and capacity building in geospatial technology and its applications through training, education and research in Southeast Asia. The training, education and capacity-building programmes of IIRS Dehradun are designed to meet the requirements of professionals at working levels, fresh graduates, researchers, academia, and decision-makers. 

The institute conducts specially designed courses for the officers from Central and State Government Ministries and stakeholder departments for the effective utilization of Earth Observation (EO) data. IIRS is also empanelled under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India providing short-term regular and special courses to international participants from ITEC member countries since 2001.

Admission to the IIRS Dehradun M.Tech and M.Sc programmes is done on the basis of the IIRS entrance exam which will be followed by an interview. Admission to the PG Diploma programme is merit-based with Government-sponsored candidates receiving special preferences. The IIRS Dehradun fees for the courses range from Rs 20,000 to Rs 1.64 lakh. This varies according to the degree level of the programme opted for.

The activities of IIRS Dehradun are guided by the IIRS Management Council (IIRS-MC). It also plays a major role in the activities of the Indian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS). To widen its outreach, IIRS Dehradun started a live and interactive Distance Learning Programme (DLP) in 2007.

Under the Outreach Programmes, IIRS conducts several courses for working professionals, researchers and students through state-of-the-art studio and e-learning concepts. At present, around 1000+ institutions and organizations spread across India are networked with IIRS. More than 1,00,000+ participants have benefitted so far from IIRS Outreach Programmes.

It hosts the headquarters of the Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific (CSSTEAP), affiliated with the United Nations (UN) and provides support in conducting the Remote Sensing and GIS training and education programmes. IIRS Dehradun is one of the largest non-governmental Scientific Societies in India.

  • For admission to IIRS Dehradun for the M.Sc course, the candidate has to appear and pass the test conducted by the IIRS, Dehradun.

Indian Institute of Remote Sensing Dehradun Application Fees

Dear student, the last date to apply for M.Sc, M.Tech and PG Diploma programmes offered at the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun is not available on the official website of the institute. The good news is that the registration process is still ongoing. We recommend that you must register for admission at IIRS Dehradun immediately before the registration link expires. IIRS Dehradun has already released the Ist Waiting List and the shortlisted candidates have already provided their willingness to join the institute by 16th August 2020. If any seats remain vacant, IISR Dehradun will release the IInd Witing List and if you have registered successfully, you will be considered to be included in the waiting list. You must, however, go through the detailed eligibility criteria for admission into your desired PG programme offered at IISR Dehradun before registering from the official website of the institute.
