Candidates who have completed SSLC (10th or 11th grade) and PUC or higher secondary (12th grade) before enrolling in an undergraduate (UG) program (3 years or more) or UG before enrolling in a postgraduate (PG) degree program, i.e. 10+2+UG degree (3 years or more) or 11+1+ UG degree (3 years or more) (3 or more years)
And
The PG must be in the corresponding research areas in the Schools of Marine Engineering, Nautical Studies, Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, Maritime Management, or a similar subject with at least 55% or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). The minimum marks for SC/ ST/ OBC (NCL)/ PwD candidates shall be 50% (Or equivalent CGPA).
Category II:
Candidates having an M.S. (by Research) or M.Phil. Degree in the corresponding research areas from the Schools of Marine Engineering, Nautical Studies, Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, Maritime Management, or another relevant subject.
Category III:
Mariners with a Master or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency or a PGDMOM certification who have worked as professors in IMU/IMU Affiliated Institutes/DG (S) authorized institutes for at least two years.

Admission to the M.S. (By Research) program will be based on one or more of the following criteria:
Category I
Candidates with a relevant undergraduate degree with a 10+2+(3 or 4) pattern and a cumulative grade point average of at least 55% or equivalent (CGPA).
Category II
Mariners who have completed the Master or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency. The minimum marks for SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwD candidates shall be 50% (or equivalent CGPA).
At the undergraduate level, IMU Chennai provides B.Tech, BSc, BBA, and DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science). All of these courses, with the exception of BBA, are admitted through the IMU CET. Candidates who wish to pursue IMU Chennai UG programs must be at least 25 years old.
The university provides MBA and MSc programs at the postgraduate level. Admission to these programs is done through the IMU CET. For seafarers having a Master (FG) Certificate of Competency or a MEO Class-I Certificate of Competency, 50% of the total places in MSc are reserved. The entrance exam is waived for such seamen. A physical fitness certificate from a qualified medical practitioner is required of all candidates who qualify for PG degree programs.
For admission to Ph.D. and MS by Research programs, the university administers the IMU CET. The exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) designed to assess a candidate's general mental capacity, knowledge of the maritime industry, and knowledge of the relevant discipline/area of research. An essay test on a broad topic is also included in the exam. The weightage of the MCQ and essay tests is 50% and 35%, respectively. Candidates who have been shortlisted based on their performance on the entrance exam will be required to participate in a PI (personal interview) round, which will account for the remaining 15% of their score.
Candidates must meet the IMU CET 2023 eligibility criteria in order to be admitted to IMU campuses for various programs. IMU holds the IMU CET to provide admission to several UG and PG Marine Engineering programs. Qualified candidates will be able to take part in the counseling process and get admission to IMU's numerous campuses and affiliated universities.
Aside from taking the IMU CET undergraduate applicants (excluding BBA) must pass a physical fitness exam, which is necessary for admission per DG Shipping rules. A medical fitness certificate provided by a medical officer recognized by the Directorate General of Shipping is required of all prospective candidates. On the other hand, no such requirements or entrance exams are required for admission to BBA. Admissions are made exclusively on the basis of the candidates' academic achievements.
The university provides MBA and MSc programs at the postgraduate level. Admission to these programs is done through the IMU CET. Shortlisted candidates will be required to enroll in IMU CET 202 online counseling.
> For the programs offered at the various IMU campuses, they must register for the online IMU CET counseling 2024.
> Candidates must first pay the non-refundable counseling cost of INR 10,000 using net banking, credit card, or debit card for registration before choosing the program and institute to which they desire to apply.
> Candidates will be assigned seats at the IMU CET campus based on their rank in the IMU CET exam (this year on the basis of class 12 marks), their category, program preference, and campus, as well as the quantity of seats available.
> Candidates will receive a provisional seat allotment letter after the seats have been assigned, which they can download once they have logged in.
> Once the candidate has been assigned a place, they must pay a non-refundable program cost of INR 25,000 before the deadline.
