Overall: The Gauhati University Institute of Science and Technology had been established in Gauhati University campus in the year 2009 to enhance the quality and innovation in science and technology education in the North Eastern Region. The Institute creates a state-of-art environment for systematic and in-depth study of engineering at undergraduate and post-graduate levels. There are frequent seminars and workshops occuring in the college and also a good GDSC(google developer student club) managed by the seniors.

Placement: The institute organizes placement drives all throughout the year for the students of final semesters. The students are placed at various institutions and organization for higher studies and services. Some of the prominent hiring organizations include Accenture, TCS, Cognizant, Federal Bank, Wipro, Zaloni etc. The placement rate for year 2022-2023 was 70.8%.

Infrastructure: The main building of GUIST is a few minutes walk from the main gate of GU and has all the required necessities such as gallery classes, a well equipped seminar hall, electronics lab, IT lab, chemistry lab, physics lab etc. There are separately designated department buildings for each branch under B.Tech programme nearby the GUIST building. All department classrooms are ICT enabled, internet connected computer labs.

Hostel: Students admitted to the B.Tech programmes can avail hostels available in the university. The mess fees varies from 1000rs to 3000rs per month and covers other miscellaneous expenses. There are 9 RCC hostels and 10 Assam type hostels divided among both boys and girls. Rented rooms and PGs are also available in the surrounding areas of the university.
