JNTU College of Engineering Hyderabad, formerly known as Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College, was established in the year 1965 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and administrated under the control of the Department of Technical Education. It has been affiliated to Osmania University. It has been recognised by UGC and has also been approved by AICTE, New Delhi. When Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) was established on October 2, 1972, the college became one of the university's constituent colleges and was subsequently given the name JNTU College of Engineering, Hyderabad.

For the advancement of the college, specific grants are occasionally sought from a number of funding organisations, including the UGC, MHRD, AICTE, DST, and DRDO. The Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP), a project supported by the World Bank, has provided funding to the college. The JNTU College of Engineering courses are offered to interested candidates at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The college has eight Engineering Departments viz Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Chemical Engineering and four Sciences and Humanities Departments (Maths, Physics, Chemistry and HSS).

The JNTU College of Engineering admission to the BE/BTech courses is offered on the basis of the TS EAMCET entrance exam whereas the GATE/TS PGECET entrance exam is accepted for getting admission to ME/M.Tech courses. Along with the entrance exam, the marks in the last qualifying exam are also considered by the college for admission. In addition to guiding research programmes, the college's highly trained faculty members hold doctoral and master's degrees. The college also engages in considerable research and provides industrial consulting services to a range of public and private organisations in addition to its academic endeavours.

The JNTU College of Engineering campus is spread over an area of 95 acres and offers students a variety of facilities such as a gymnasium, boys' and girls' hostels, laboratories, a sports complex, transportation services, banking services, a full-fledged library, a canteen, and more. Additionally, the college has a separate placement cell for tasks connected to placement. Every year, placement drives are held by the participating recruiters and the JNTU College of Engineering placement cell to give students the opportunity to begin their careers before even finishing their education. The college holds a variety of events, including webinars, seminars, pre-placement interviews, training sessions, and more. No, even as an EWS applicant, you are unlikely to be offered a seat at JNTUH University College of Engineering Hyderabad with an ICET rank of 12232. For the academic year 2022–2023, 7500 was the cutoff rank for EWS applicants at JNTUH University College of Engineering Hyderabad. This implies that in order to get a seat at this college, you would need to be among the top 7500 candidates in the ICET. You can still try your luck in the seat allocation procedure, though. Through the management quota or the sports quota, some seats can be available. Another option is to apply for admission to a different JNTUH college.
