JNTU College of Engineering Hyderabad, formerly known as Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College, was established in the year 1965 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and administrated under the control of the Department of Technical Education. It has been affiliated to Osmania University. It has been recognised by UGC and has also been approved by AICTE, New Delhi. When Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) was established on October 2, 1972, the college became one of the university's constituent colleges and was subsequently given the name JNTU College of Engineering, Hyderabad.

For the advancement of the college, specific grants are occasionally sought from a number of funding organisations, including the UGC, MHRD, AICTE, DST, and DRDO. The Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP), a project supported by the World Bank, has provided funding to the college. The college also engages in considerable research and provides industrial consulting services to a range of public and private organisations in addition to its academic endeavours.
