Campus at a Glance

Established in 2015 in the city of Shikohabad, JS University is a state-private university recognised by UGC and NCTE. Within its 42.63 acres of land, the university has separate facilities for all its departments. For those interested in the National Cadet Corps (NCC), the university has dedicated an installation for the very purpose. Considered a newbie, the university is still undergoing construction in terms of infrastructure.

Currently, JIS University Shikohabad offers admission to courses at the diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in streams like engineering, education, management, agriculture, pharmacy, law, science, veterinary science, commerce, nursing, arts, media and a few others. 

The university is under a lot of speculation among students concerning its authenticity, especially related to its website. There were two websites running simultaneously. One was jsuniversity.in and the other, jsu.edu.in. However, the website jsuniversity.in has been suspended.  We dived in further to find out what the fuss was all about! And, there still remains a scope of doubt. On the UGC website, the official website of JS University Shikohabad is listed as jsu.ac.in although a third website - jsu.edu.in is also active. 

Even though jsuniversity.in is ruled out, there are two other JS University Shikohabad websites that are currently live. The website - jsu.ac.in. was last updated on September 2022, whereas, the website-jsu.edu.in  is updated regularly. Also according to jsu.edu.in, students have to apply online for admission at jsu.ac.in. Although students consider jsu.edu.in the official website, they is a lot of confusion surrounding the same. Is the university not aware of it? And if it’s not the case, why haven't they still released an official notification is what we are asking.

NIRF Ranking: Not Even in the Race!

For the past several years, JIS University Shikohabad has not been able to acquire a place in any of the 13 categories of the NIRF Rankings.

Our Take:

It seems that the University is still lagging behind in terms of education standards. For an institution to bag a place in the NIRF rankings, educational innovation and teaching excellence are some important parameters based on which it is assessed. From that perspective, JIS probably probably needs to step up in order to get recognition for its education system.

Academic Composition

JIS University Shikohabad academia is a mix of classroom learning, practicals and internals. It follows a semester-based approach.

Batch Size

According to the website, admissions are done through the JS University Admission Test for BTech, MTech and MBA courses. For other courses, admissions are done on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying exams. The university also claims that admission is granted based on the student’s eligibility and the total seats available. Currently, 11989 students are enrolled. Given the number of courses and the admission procedure, the batch size remains considerable. Students have also affirmed the same.

Our Take:

Students studying at the university have expressed that the academia is average. They also stated that the quality of education has deteriorated in recent years. There is a lot of room for improvement in terms of education provided. Even though the university is a new one, education must be the first priority. Incidences of the classes being cancelled is one common concern that has come up in our research. Taking into account what the student has to say, it is a good university for getting a degree. Having said that, if you wish to acquire more than just a degree certificate, you must make your list of ‘preferable universities’ a bit longer!

JS University Shikohabad Infrastructure

Classrooms: The university claims to provide 100+ smart classrooms equipped with modern technology and LCD projectors. However, students have only mentioned that the classrooms are spacious.
 

Auditorium: JS University Shikohabad has a common fully air-conditioned auditorium where conferences, seminars, events, debates etc. are organised.

Library: With an online database subscription, the central university has a total of 74,000 books, magazines and journals as per the university prospectus. The university also claims to have a cubicle inbuilt study room for lecturers and researchers with a seating capacity of 200.
 

Cafe/Hangout Areas: JS University Shikohabad asserts to have multiple eating joints functioning under the ‘pay as you eat’ system. However, students have mentioned only about the canteen. According to the students, the food is average.

Hostel: According to the university prospectus, the university has separate accommodation facilities for men and women with facilities such as box beds, mattresses, study tables, chairs, wardrobes, bathrooms and a gym. The prospectus also states that there are four hostels with an intake capacity of 1,500 in total.

Sports: Students have said they are provided with a large playground within the university premises.

Our Take:
Given the students’ reasonable expectations and the university being under construction, the facilities available are fairly satisfactory. However, students have expressed the need to improve the quality of food offered. The classrooms even though it's spacious, need to be a little more technologically advanced considering the present educational requirements.

JS University Shikohabad Placements

The university claims its placement statistics to be good. According to the university prospectus, KIA, CISCO, Hindustan Unilever Limited, L&T, State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, IDBI Bank, and IFFCO are some of their top recruiters. The placement statistics for 2022 are as follows:

Our Take:

Placement-wise, JS University Shikohabad is not up to the mark. According to a few JS University Shikohabad Civil Engineering students, there are no placement prospects. A few BTech CS students have stated that there are placement opportunities available for them but the salary package offered is very low. The JS University Shikohabad placement rate could be low due to the fact that the university is relatively new. It can be assumed that the university's questionable education quality & absence of NIRF rankings may have refrained employers from visiting the campus, is what they added.

JS University Shikohabad Faculty & College Administration

JS University Shikohabad offers education to its students through 220 faculty members. The overall teacher-student ratio stands at 56:1, which is good. Regarding administration and management, there have been issues as per our research. Students have complained about the irresponsible approach of the management staff who are busy with themselves. When any student approaches to get a query resolved, they receive silent treatment. Another issue that was highlighted was the boss-like attitude of the staff during admission form submission and admit card collection. Also, the office staff is not qualified to handle the biometric process workload. Lack of discipline among the teaching staff and cheating during examination time are some other issues that have come up during our research.

There was a huge controversy about the marksheets and admit cards being fake. Students have compared their mark sheets with some other universities and found that their photos were missing. Many ex-students faced this issue when they approached other universities for higher education. When JS University Shikohabad was questioned by students about the same, the administration said that this is how they provide the mark sheets and admit cards.

Our Take:
Taking into account the student's allegations, the university must keep a check on the behaviours of the staff, and also look into it from time to time. Moreover, the staff must be provided with the required training to curb the discrepancies that students face, one being the biometric process. Another aspect where the university needs to release an official statement is regarding the admit cards and mark sheet format.

JS University Shikohabad Location

JS University Shikohabad is located at 5 K.M. Mile Stone, Bhongoan, Mainpuri - Shikohabad Road in Firozabad District, Uttar Pradesh. The nearby bus depot, Lodhi is at a distance of 5 km from where the students have to take an auto. The nearby station is Shikohabad Junction at a distance of 25 km from the university premises. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Airport is approximately 92 km away.

Our Take:

Students find the location to be favourable. Even though the campus is quite large, they enjoy strolling within it, even if they have to cover a considerable distance from the university entrance to reach their respective departments.

JS University Shikohabad Expectation vs Reality: CollegeDekho Verdict

As a new university, JS University Shikohabad has provided the much-needed infrastructure to its students. The total fees per course range between INR 20,000 and INR 4,39,200. Barring a few courses like B.Tech and B.Pharm, the students have found the fees to be reasonable. However, the controversies around its official website, mark sheet, and admit card have overpowered the goodness. 

For any student, the official website of the college or university is the first point of contact. JS University Shikohabad seems to have not taken this angle seriously, which might continue to discourage students from applying for admission. Poor relationship between the management and student is also evident. Even though the university claims to be at a developing stage, these are areas that need to be resolved at the earliest. Keeping the students in a shadow of doubt might not be a favourable situation for JS University Shikohabad!
