North Maharashtra University (NMU) is a teaching cum affiliating university in the state of Maharashtra. NMU and its affiliated 220 colleges offer higher education in various fields such as Arts, Management, Education, Science, Computer Applications, Engineering, Commerce, and Agriculture. 

NMU has been accredited by NAAC with an 'A' grade and a CGPA score of 3.11 on a 4-point scale. Besides, NMU has also been honored by NAAC with a prestigious ‘4-star status’. The campus of NMU is spread across a vast area of 660 acres that includes 2 lakh trees and has various facilities such as a library, a hostel for boys and girls, a sports complex, laboratories, a cafeteria, a gym, medical facilities, a plant tissue culture lab, a shuttle service, auditorium, bank, post office, audio-visual hall, convocation Auditorium, daycare center, etc. The NMU provides financial assistance in the form of scholarships to meritorious and needy students. It also provides research fellowships so that students can continue their studies without any financial restraints.  The ‘training and placement cell’ of the university provides students with various placement opportunities. Our Take
North Maharashtra University boasts of impressive infrastructure, expansive administration, technologically updated classrooms, and well-qualified faculty. The campus of the college is attractive with lots of greenery. As per the student's review on Quora, the college library is one of the best places in the college with over 50,000 books and 500+ magazines stacked. However, in the deeper section, the placements and packages offered are not very satisfactory as per students' recommendations. As per the data available, it can be observed that the university does not come under the ambit of the NIRF ranking. There may be several reasons- either the parameters laid down by the NIRF are not fulfilled by the NMU or the university must not have participated in the NIRF ranking. As per the student's review on Reddit, the college the college infrastructure needs to be renovated. 

NMU Academia & Batch Size

As per the student reviews made on Quora, Classes at  MNU typically start at 9 A.M. The students are required to be on time for class and to prepare for all lectures in advance so that the courses may be more participatory in nature. Each class lasts for 60 minutes, including a 30-minute tea break. Along with this, the students get some free time in the evenings to engage in enjoyable activities such as athletics, roaming about campus, and exploring the city.

Number of Courses

• Faculty of Humanities: It is dedicated to students willing to pave the academic path to arts and humanities. This faculty is divided into 10 core departments including subjects such as political science, public administration, ancient Indian culture, sociology, and psychology among others.
• Faculty of Commerce and Management: This department has been divided two segments: into business management and commerce courses.
• Faculty of Science & Technology: It comprises 10+ departments including courses on geology, biochemistry, botany, biology, physics, computer science, pharmaceutical science, and other science subjects.
• Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies: It is segregated into 3 other departments which include library and information science, fine arts, physical education, mass communication, and education.

Pedagogy

Faculty and staff are mostly highly qualified, which is good for every student in NMU. Also, the faculty helps students with every difficulty and also motivates them to do more. As per the student’s review, the faculty members are cooperative and encourage the weaker students to feel included.

Our Take
Due to the availability of various courses, student footfall is largely seen on the campus. The student can choose from the diverse range of courses offered. Deriving from the student’s reviews on Quora, the availability of vast courses makes them feel ‘inclusive’ as a majority of the students get learning opportunities. Also, the faculty is helpful.

NMU Infrastructure

NMU has a welcoming and well-facilitated infrastructure with greenery surrounding the campus encouraging students to drench their aesthetic self with the biodiversity around. The university provides top-notch facilities from labs, a library, and hostels to a sports complex that encourages students to learn in an equipped and comfy environment.
 

Classroom

Special facilities are provided in the university classes. Projector screens have been arranged in the classrooms for the students so that they can concentrate more on their studies. There are smartboards also available in the NMU.

Auditorium/Seminar Hall

There is a large and wide auditorium where numerous activities are held in NMU. There are many laboratories accessible to students from other departments.

Library

The library at NMU is an attractive space in the varsity for book lovers. It houses a wide array of journals, research papers, printed books, and dissertations for students hailing from different streams. Labs

Students pursuing computer science degrees or other IT degrees can get access to the labs. Well, the internet connection is swift but issues surround sanitation in the labs.

The entire campus of NMU is Wi-Fi enabled with limited access. The speed of the internet is quite good according to students. Students can utilize the internet in the classroom as well.

Commute

There are various means of transport such as rickshaws, e-rickshaws, autos, and sharing autos available for students from railway stations. 

Hostel

The hostel rooms in NMU are hygienic. The hostel rooms are available to all the students in the university. The rooms are well-furnished and are equipped with the necessary facilities to make the students stay comfortable. As per the data, the hostel facility is available for non-localized male/female students.

Activities

As per the student’s review, the college offers a safe and sound atmosphere for both boys and girls to study, but it lacks extracurricular activities. Although NMU has good sports fields for many outdoor and indoor sports like Cricket Grounds, Football, Running/Athletic track, Basketball Court, Volleyball Court, Badminton Courts (Indoor/Outdoor), and Table Tennis Court, the facilities are not provided with modern-day technology and equipment.

Cafe/Hang out

The North Maharashtra University has a canteen offering Indian and other cuisines. The food is served hot and hygienic. The famous food served in the cafeteria is ‘kandha poha’, as per the leading college magazine.

Our Take
The NMU has adequate infrastructure for students. From a well-maintained classroom to an auditorium laced with modern technology, the university offers various opportunities for students to carry out extracurricular activities apart from academics. The student's review on Quora reveals that in spite of the better infrastructure, the college must renovate the labs and modern technology must be used. The students find it difficult to be upgraded with the new technology to conduct practical experiments.

Internship & Placement

The University Central Training and Placement Cell is responsible for providing placement opportunities to UG, PG, and Post Graduate students. The placement cell is responsible for providing lucrative positions in the companies. The placement is done in the fields of IT, Electronics and Telecommunications, Heavy Industries, FMCG, Banking, Consulting, etc.

According to the annual report 2023, 56+ companies have arrived in the placement drive in NMU. During the placement drive, 149 students were selected. The highest and average package offered to the student was INR 22 LPA during the NMU placement drive 2023. Many top recruiters visited the NMU campus such as IndiaMart, Gadre, TMEIC, Adobe, etc.

Our Take

As per the placement data, an increase of over 26% was observed in the average package offered during placements in 2023 when compared to 2022 the students. Also, the highest package offered during the placement was 5% higher in 2023 than in 2022. As per the Reddit review of the passed-out students, the placement opportunities have increased, but in spite of that, the packages received in the college are still low as compared to the packages received in different colleges in the same course.

Faculty/College Administration & Management

The college faculty and the administration provide basic assignments, instructions, and support to improve the performance of the students who are lagging behind in academics. 

Our Take
As per the student’s review, the administration is helpful and attends to the queries of students. An effective assistance cell has been implemented on the campus to look after the issues arising on the campus. In case of any difficulty, the administration looks after the issue in a short span of time.

Location

The colleges of NMU are located 10 km away from Jalgaon City. There are various modes of transportation to reach the campus. The railway station of Jalgaon is connected well to many different cities. Through NH 6, the city is connected to various important cities. 

Our Take
Taking the location of the college into consideration, it can be said that the NMU is connected well through every means of transport- road/rail/flight. The students can reach the campus easily. If the security factor is taken into consideration, the students are of the opinion that after evening, it is not much safer to travel as the campus is located a little far away from the main city.

Expectation vs. Reality CollegeDekho Verdict

NMU has emerged as a renowned education institute providing courses across education, IT, engineering, humanities, pharmacy, and other streams at pretty affordable fees. Though the varsity boasts of a campus with rich biodiversity, however, innovation seems to be an urgent need in the building that was established in 1990.
