Rajendra Singh Rawat Govt. Degree College, Barkot is situated on the bank of holy river Yamuna, at a place popularly known as the gate way to Yamunotri (the first of the four Dhams). It was established in 1993 with five subjects in Humanities and started off its academic practices in the academic session 1994-95 with just 36 students which raised to the strength of 540 students, as of now. It offers BA programme for Hindi, English, Economics, History and Political Science. It is the only Arts College in the entire Ranwai valley catering to the need of higher education for students. We have competent faculty members. In scholastic and co-scholastic areas, the college earned a name. Activities in NSS and Rovers-Rangers of this college always win laurels and make it a ‘college with a difference’. Various activities organized by Career Counselling and Placement Cell, Computer Cell and Departmental Associations as also, Sports and Cultural activities in the college play vital role in over all development of personality of the students. The students evince keen interest in these activities. The teacher-taught relation beggars description. The student-discipline is praiseworthy. Parent-teacher associations, Alumni association, Anti ragging committee and Women redressal cell have been constituted as per the direction and expectation of the Directorate (higher education) and Govt. of Uttarakhand. The election of student union is conducted as per the regulations of Supreme Court and the recommendations of Lyngdoh Committee.
