On comparing the last three years’ NIRF ranking of the University of Hyderabad, a slight downfall of 1-7 positions has been noticed. Other than that, UOH has maintained quite impressive ranking in the ‘University’, ‘Management’ and ‘Overall’ categories. Additionally, it has successfully made its place in the ‘Engineering’ category in 2023. This reflects constant efforts put in by the university to improve its ranking and reputation.

Indeed, UOH is one of the most prestigious universities in India and is very well-known for its academia. The diversity in course offerings at an affordable cost provides talented students from different categories to pursue higher education as per their interests. Moreover, the curriculum and pedagogy are highly impressive providing comprehensive and holistic education to students. However, the university can improve its student-faculty ratio a bit. 

University of Hyderabad Infrastructure

The campus of UOH spans over 1500 acres of land comprising excellent infrastructure and facilities mentioned in detail below. 

Classroom and Lecture Hall: UOH has 492 ICT-enabled classrooms and lecture halls. The modern classrooms makes learning intresting and enjoyable. Moreover, University of Hyderabad classrooms are furnished, well-lit, ventilated and spacious. 

Auditorium: The university has two auditoriums for cultural activities with a seating capacity of 500 and 150 each. Along with this, an open-air auditorium is used for hosting large events. The auditoriums are equipped with modern facilities and used for hosting various academic and cultural events. 

Laboratories: University of Hyderabad has well-equipped laboratories in all the science departments and other centres. The laboratories are excellent based on the students' feedback on Quora. UOH laboratories allows students to perform experiments and gain practical exposure. 

Library: The Indira Gandhi Memorial Library of UOH is considered one of the largest and best libraries in India. It is the first university library in the country to have fully automated operations. The facilities include Web-OPAC, INFLIBNET, Shodhgang, remote access, etc. Overall, It is a hub for students and appropriate for focused study. 

Internet: As per SSR 2023, the entire campus of UOH is enabled with Wifi and broadband internet access. Students have presented positive feedback regarding the internet connectivity. 

Hostel: There are 23 separate hostels for boys and girls that accommodate over 5,000 students. The hostel rooms are furnished but the food quality isn’t nice as per students’ feedback. Further, dinning facilties is only available in 9 hostels. 
 

Activities: Based on students’ feedback, plenty of activities are held on the campus. The students’ union organise different competitions, plays, film screenings, sports events and talks. 

Cafe/Canteen: UOH has canteen facilities, food courts and recreation centres spread across the campus. Students can enjoy the night canteen and a pretty vibrant nightlife. Apart from that, Hyderabad is an amazing place for local food and hangout places to explore. 

Our Take:

The University of Hyderabad’s campus has state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure. The well-furnished academic and residential blocks are highly rated by the students. The campus is huge, lush green and well-kept offering a holistic environment to the students. This is one of the reasons that draw students to UOH from across the nation. Nonetheless, a few students have voiced their dissatisfaction with the food quality and taste provided by the mess.

The University of Hyderabad has successfully placed around 485 students in 185 companies with the highest package of Rs 23 LPA in 2023. In the previous year, 396 students were placed in 213 companies with the highest package of Rs 17 LPA.

While comparing the UOH’s placement statistics of 2023 to 2022 we found a significant increase of 22% in the number of students placed. Additionally, the maximum package rose by 6 LPA from Rs 17 LPA to Rs 23 LPA. This gradual rise reflects the university’s effort to increase the placements. 

While the PG (3-year) placements stood at 100% in 2022, the PG (2-year) placement rate was around 43% and the PG-integrated placement reached a 67% rate in 2023. These course-wise placement statistics show that the university needs to work hard to increase placements for some PG courses in the coming years.

University of Hyderabad (UOH) Faculty/College Administration & Management

According to the NIRF Report 2023, the total number of faculty members at the University of Hyderabad stands at 421. The faculty are highly qualified and approachable. The students on Quora expressed positive reviews about the faculty of UOH. According to them, the deans and professors are experienced and friendly. 

However, several news articles and reviews on Quora have negative feedback for the administration and management of the University of Hyderabad. Various complaints and concerns regarding safety and politics on campus have blemished the reputation of the university. Many students didn’t appreciate the political involvement of ABVP, SFI and RSS on campus. Apart from that, the university administration is slow in taking action regarding students' concerns and problems.

While the faculty of UOH are qualified and supportive, the administration and management lack efficiency and decision-making. This is evident from the poor involvement of the university in several issues related to student development. Additionally, the university’s administration looks highly involved in politics. Hence, the students who genuinely wish to engage in studies are dragged into political agendas and other issues. This results in creating a negative image of UOH in students’ minds which should be seriously looked upon by the university.
