Vasavi College of Engineering (VCE) was established in 1981 in Hyderabad, Telangana by the Vasavi Academy of Education under the leadership of the Late Sri Pendekanti Venkata Subbaiah, a veteran statesman of Independent India. It is a private, un-aided, non-minority, autonomous college that is approved by the All Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an A++ grade along with NBA. The college is affiliated with Osmania University and has been recognised by the UGC (University Grants Commission). Vasavi College of Engineering, in its 42 years of existence, is a reputed institution in the state of Telangana.

VCE offers 7 UG courses (Civil, Mechanical, ECE, CSE, CSE AI & ML, EEE and IT) with a total sanctioned intake of 780 and 5 PG courses ME (ES & VLSI), ME (CE & SP), ME (ADM), ME(PS & PE), and M.Tech (CSE) with total sanctioned intake of 96. The 5 UG programmes of the college Civil, CSE, ECE, EEE and Mechanical Engineering applied for NBA Accreditation under Tier-I and have been accredited for 3 years with effect from 2021-22.

Our Take:

Vasavi College of Engineering had submitted its institute data for NIRF Ranking 2023 but it was not featured in any rank band. Starting 2023, NIRF releases the lists only until the rank band of 150 to 200. Since VCE was in the 251-300 rank band in NIRF 2022, it is safe to say that the institute failed to improve its standards this year as well. Its NIRF ranking has been dropping drastically every year since 2019 and the college needs to ensure it fairs well in all the parameters that determine its ranking. Maintaining a well-functioning state-of-the-art campus, updating the curriculum as per industry requirements, introducing new courses and specialisations, enrolling candidates of diverse backgrounds, etc are some of the steps that VCE should take to improve its NIRF ranking.  

VCE Academia & Batch Size

VCE offers a total of seven specialisations under the BE course and under the ME degree, candidates can choose from five specialisations. Vasavi College of Engineering also offers a BE Lateral Entry programme of a three three-year duration. 

As per the data submitted to NIRF 2023, the approved sanctioned intake is 780 for UG 4 Years Course(s) and 96 for PG 2 Year Course(s). 

Courses Offered

Vasavi College of Engineering offers UG and PG programmes in various specialisations. The courses are offered in the streams of engineering and architecture in a full-time mode of education only. The UG courses include BE Electronics and Communication Engineering, BE Information Technology, BE Computer Science and Engineering, BE Mechanical Engineering, BE Civil Engineering, BE Electrical and Electronics Engineering and BE Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning while the PG courses include ME Embedded Systems and VLSI Design, ME Computer Science and Engineering, ME Advanced Design and Manufacturing, ME Communication Engineering and Signal Processing and ME Power Systems and Power Electronics. 

Course Fees

The Vasavi College of Engineering fees range from INR 1 lakh to INR 1.30 lakh per annum. However, this fee will vary based on the duration of the programme and also the degree level. 

VCE Scholarship

The scholarships offered to students of Vasavi College of Engineering are aimed at helping them pursue their education regardless of their financial challenges. However, to receive financial aid, the students have to meet the prescribed eligibility conditions. 

Saroja Rajanna Scholarship Programme

A continuation of the prestigious scholarship drive “Saroja Rajanna Scholarship Programme” by Mr G. Nagaraju, Business Lead, Broadridge, Alumnus of 2005 batch, is given to the students of BE. The objective of this scholarship is to motivate students who are in financial need and good at academics to continue performing their best during their specialised courses without any obstacles. Every year Mr. G. Nagaraju conducts a scholarship drive to identify a student who is good at academics and in need of financial assistance and the shortlisted candidate gets an amount of INR 3500 per month for the period of one year. 

Vasavi College of Engineering offers multiple scholarships amounting to deserving students based on their academic records and financial status.

Our Take:

The course fee of VCE is moderate and falls on the more reasonable side if compared to the fee structure of other private engineering colleges in India. The financial aid offered to students through scholarships is another advantage that can attract more students. However, the list of specialisations offered at VCE is rather limited and the college needs to introduce some new UG and PG courses. Many new-age topics in technical education can also be offered through certificate and diploma courses in order to provide more options to students interested in admission. The college must ensure that the curriculum is updated regularly and is at par with industry standards. VCE has exceeded the sanctioned intake for UG courses and that can have a negative impact on the college's NIRF ranking. 

VCE Infrastructure

Students have facilities of a gymnasium, boys' and girls' hostels, laboratories, a sports complex, transportation services, banking facilities, a full-fledged library, a canteen, and other amenities at the VCE Hyderabad campus, which is spread over an area of more than 13.6 acres. 

Hostel

VCE does not provide campus accommodation or hostel facilities to its students. There are hostels and PGs available around the campus of Vasavi College of Engineering that students can rent on a single or sharing basis. 

Library

The Central Library of Vasavi College of Engineering has a floor area of 2977 square meters with a reading space of 770 square meters. It has more than 13,415 titles, 1,20,322 volumes (including rare books and 123 titles), and subscribes to 6950 E-Journals, 97608 E-Books and 101 National and International print Journals & magazines. The central library is equipped with different types of learning resources. 

The VCE Library has a collection of books, periodicals, and CD-ROMs on Science and Technology, Humanities including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Electrical Engineering and Electronics, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and English.

Computer Centre

The centralised computer centre facility of Vasavi College of Engineering was established in the year 1995. VCE has a high-speed campus-wide network that connects all its departments consisting of 1768 systems. A computing environment distributed across the campus through workstations and PCs provides the students and faculty with ready access to computing resources, services software and applications. The college has an internet facility with two leased lines and one broadband, one from BSNL with 250 mbps, one from Pioneer eLabs with 400 mbps and ACT Fiber with 1 gbps Broadband, which is used by staff and students to access various online resources. The internet can also be accessed through WiFi at various locations (Canteen, Library, Seminar Halls, Conference Halls, Placement Cell, etc.) of the VCE campus.

Sports

The Department of Physical Education of VCE conducts sports like Cricket, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Kabbadi, Athletics, Throw Ball, Tennikoit and also indoor games like Table Tennis, Carrom, Badminton and Chess. The college has a full-time trained staff nurse who stays on the college campus until 6:30 PM for first-aid if students are injured during the conduct of sports & games. First-aid boxes are kept in the Sports & Games Department for medical crises. An ambulance is also available in the college for emergency services and beds are provided in the health centre for any medical emergency.

Classrooms

The classrooms of VCE are well-equipped with modern teaching facilities like projectors and screens for the benefit of the students. The classrooms are also well furnished with air conditioning facilities.  

Cafeteria

The Vasavi College of Engineering campus has a beautiful and hygienic cafeteria which serves healthy food to teachers and students at nominal rates.

Language Laboratories

The Language Laboratories of VCE were established in 1999 to implement classroom learning of the students by imparting communication and interpersonal skills. The Phonetics Laboratory trains students to use and comprehend English speech, minimize mother tongue influence, and eventually improve their pronunciation. 

The Interactive Communication Skills Laboratory, equipped with ultramodern audio-visual tools and pleasant space, trains the students towards an active application of their oral skills through creative activities.

Bank

The Vasavi College of Engineering campus has a bank and an ATM that students and others can access. 

Medical Care

The healthcare centre is established on the VCE campus with one full-time Nursing Assistant and facilities like beds, wheelchairs, first aid medicines, ambulance, etc. First-aid boxes with all accessories are kept in all laboratories and classrooms on the campus. Vasavi College of Engineering has also entered an MoU with Renova Hospital at Langar House which is within 3 km from the institute and can be reached in 10 minutes. 

Transport Facility

The Vasavi College of Engineering students and staff have access to transportation facilities around the city. Bus facilities are available for the 1st year and senior students of the college.

Our Take:

Vasavi College of Engineering college campus is equipped with the necessary amenities that college students require. However, the absence of hostel facilities is a major drawback for the college. Many students do not prefer to rent private hostels or PGs because of reasons such as safety, extra expenses, distance from the college, requirement for conveyance etc. VCE needs to start offering student accommodation on campus or tie up with nearby private hostels to make it more convenient for students from other states. A big advantage students of VCE get is the bus services that are provided in the morning and evening. The central library of the college has sufficient seating capacity for both individual and group studies.

VCE Internships & Placements

Vasavi College of Engineering has a training and placement cell that controls overall placement activities including assisting students with personal and career-related issues. The main motive is to enable the students to effectively cope with academics and be prepared for successful careers after graduating from VCE. Students get training as part of their regular course curriculum, however, the college also offers a 100-hour extensive training programme during the vacation period following the pre-final year exams to prepare students for the recruiting process in their final year.

In order to provide better learning opportunities to students, Vasavi College of Engineering has embraced pedagogical techniques in conjunction with industry, businesses, counterpart institutions and worldwide experience that helps them get job-ready. Many top companies take part in the placement drive and hire students for both internship and placement opportunities. VCE's placement cell does a commendable job at networking with leading organisations and offering better campus placement facilities for students. One thing that the institute needs to improve upon is providing equally lucrative campus placement opportunities for non-engineering courses like MCA. There is no data for MCA placements at Vasavi College after 2018-19 and even in that year, only 90 students received offers.

Our Take:

VCE has almost twice the number of male students as compared to the total female student strength. However, the total female strength in many STEM courses is usually less and since VCE primarily offers engineering courses, we can attribute the institute's poor gender ratio to this reason. The college, however, fails to provide geographical diversity as the majority of the students enrolled in both UG and PG courses are from Telangana. One reason for the poor state of student diversity can be that there is no hostel facility at VCE. Students often feel hesitant to take admission to colleges that do not have hostel facilities. Expanding the infrastructure and providing accommodation is essential for attracting students from the states outside of Telangana.

VCE Faculty/ College Administration & Management

Vasavi College of Engineering has around 106 faculty members who are highly qualified and dedicated in their respective fields. Each department consists of Professors and Assistant Professors and students have reported that the teachers are knowledgeable and helpful. The course curriculum at VCE is relevant to the industry standard and prepares students for the workforce. Faculty members also give their full support to the students to start their careers.

Our Take:

The students of VCE have provided positive feedback on the faculty members. As the teachers are knowledgeable professionals and provide help, it becomes easy for the students to participate in the recruitment drive and get good scores on their exams. VCE has excellent teaching faculty with an upgraded curriculum making the students industry-ready. The faculty at Vasavi College of Engineering are well-qualified and highly skilled with a minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience. The students of VCE are satisfied with the faculty members and the teaching method. 

VCE Location

Located in the sylvan suburbs of Ibrahimbagh in Hyderabad, VCE presents a picturesque view beside the glorious Golconda Fort. The college is situated over a 13.6-acre campus with lush lawns, a beautiful landscape, aesthetic architecture and cutting-edge infrastructure while setting an example for higher learning.

Vasavi College of Engineering is located at 9-5-81, Ibrahim Bagh Road, Ibrahim Bagh, Hyderabad in Telangana. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is located at an approximate distance of 26 km from the campus and students can reach the college by hiring a cab from the airport. Lakdikapool Railway Station is the closest railway station to the college campus, located at a distance of 12 km. The closest bus stop near the college is Mehdipatnam Bus Depot, located at an approximate distance of 9 km and students can easily reach the campus by hiring an auto from the bus stop.

Vasavi College of Engineering has a good placement record with excellent faculty members. VCE’s alumni are spread across different countries, making significant contributions in their respective fields. The college provides world-class facilities and infrastructure with seminar halls, well-equipped conference halls and well-furnished classrooms. However, VCE must start offering hostel facilities soon in order to fare better in various aspects. 

VCE is an autonomous college with moderate course fees. Some top companies participate in the VCE recruitment drive and students are recruited with good salary packages. Apart from a few areas of improvement, the reviews of the students on Quora and alumni platforms have positive feedback for the college.
