Overall: I have completed my B.Ed from IGNOU in 2022. I always had a knack of teaching kids and even joined coaching centers as part time teacher. For taking my dream of being a teacher to new heights, I enrolled in to the B.Ed course from IGNOU. The best thing about learning in IGNOU was that I did not have to attend the classes as a regular student and had the flexibility to give the exams from the nearest regional centers. I did not hamper my teaching schedule. And now as I have completed my B.Ed successfully, I can opt for the various teaching positions and make my dream come true.
Placement: Since I wanted to opt for a job through my own capabilities, I did not opt for their placement facilities. Yet all I can say is that I have seen many of my batchmates getting good placement opportunities through IGNOU’s placement cell. All the placement related information like available jobs and offered salary are posted on their website. If you are planning to opt for their placement facility, remember to first get yourself registered.
Infrastructure: Since IGNOU has around 56 regional centers around India, communication of important information has never been difficult. Under every regional center, there are multiple study centres wherein each one served as your primary point of contact for study/course-related issues & queries. All study materials were provided from the study centers and exams were conducted here as well. For any administrative query, the student has to connect with the regional centre. Overall, this well-connected network helps students in staying updated to their course-related information.
Faculty: When I enrolled in 2020, I always thought that professors would be very strict and would only focus on completing their subjects/lessons without bothering about the students. But the professors here changed my notion completely. Apart from being well-experienced, they were extremely supportive and helped students in understanding the concepts properly. And not just the teaching staff, the non-teaching ones were also helpful because they helped me in completing my application form for admission and even offering xeroxing my documents as I had forgotten to do so.
Hostel: Being an open university. IGNOU does not have proper hostel facility. The region centre allocates a study centre specific to the course the student opts for. Since my study centre was 3km away from my home, I travelled on my bike whenever I had to. Otherwise, students can opt for the various pg facilities available around the study centres.
Overall: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is a budget friendly university you can find in India. The curriculum and study materials provided by the IGNOU are good. The application process is entirely online, even the classes were held online. During the admission process you will notice that your book charge is included in your admission fee, therefore your book will be delivered to your house, but with slightest delay. I wanted to continue with my job along with my studies so that’s why I chose IGNOU. I am pursuing a bachelor of education degree from IGNOU. The university provides good education through distance learning, which makes it easy to get both the things done at a time. I have seen it personally that most of the IGNOU students are already employed or preparing for government jobs.
Placement: The placement rate of IGNOU is very good. students can apply for them beginning in the sixth semester. Since I am still pursuing, I have no experience of placements but I have seen my seniors get placed in good MNCs and reputed organisations. Many reputable companies come to the IGNOU campus for placement, and about 80% of students are placed in reputable companies. The largest package available was 12 Lakhs annually, while the lowest was 4 Lakhs per year.
Infrastructure: The college's infrastructure is quite nice. There are several classes that are well-established and well-equipped with modern technologies. The facility is lovely, and medical services are provided 24 hours to the students.
Faculty: The faculty at the Indira Gandhi National Open University is so good. All the teachers and professors are very helpful and they try their best to assist you in the best possible way. They will help you with study materials online. Aside from that, the teachers are quite well educated, and the tests at IGNOU are quite competitive.
Hostel: The university has well-furnished hostel facilities for the students. The hostel rooms at the IGNOU are of standard size and have all the required basic amenities. Each room has to be shared by two students.
Overall: IGNOU is one of the best universities for distance programmes in India. I am currently pursuing B.Ed from IGNOU. Since I am a full-time primary school teacher, it is not possible for me to attend regular college. That is the reason why I chose IGNOU and I think I made the right choice. Classes are conducted over weekends. Since the university does not follow the semester system and exams are held annually. This makes the university all the more feasible for already employed students like me.
Placement: The university does not have any set procedure for placements. However, sometimes teachers share vacancies or job opportunities in the students group. But, it is very rare. In my case, I don’t need any placement as I will be eligible for promotion in my job after attaining a B.Ed degree.
Infrastructure: IGNOU has hundreds of regional centres spread all over the country. Each student is allotted a regional centre. My centre is near my place. I go there on weekends for classes. The classrooms at the centre are spacious and ventilated. A canteen is also there that serves snacks and beverages.
Faculty: My regional centre faculty members are very helpful and cooperative. Many times, they have extended the classes for us. When exams are around the corner, doubt classes are also conducted by faculty members. I have four teachers, all have PhD degrees and with 10 years of teaching experience.
Hostel: Since IGNOU does not have a fixed campus, it does not offer hostel facilities. Usually students are allotted a regional centre near to their place. This eliminates the need for hostels as students can take classes and come back home easily.
Overall: After completing my MA in English from my local university, I decided to pursue B.Ed from IGNOU specifically due to its flexibility. I paid around Rs 50,000 as the course fee. There are also extra charges for printed study material. IGNOU degrees are now globally recognised so you do not have to worry about their validity. I completed my course in 2020 and now I am working as a full-time teacher in a local private school.
Placement: IGNOU does not offer placement for B.Ed. However, it prepares you for the professional world. After completing my course, I apple for a few private school jobs and ultimately ended up at my current workplace following a thorough evaluation. So, with an IGNOU degree, you do not have to worry about your job prospect.
Infrastructure: IGNOU has instituted a fabulous set-up for distance learners. The university follows a content-based methodology to make us understand the fundamentals of how to teach children. There are also various workshops in the course curriculum to help us gain practical knowledge. At the end of the course, we also needed to do a 16-week internship programme.
Faculty: I was assigned to my local study centre by the university authorities. The classes used to be held there. The teachers were really good. The support staff there helped us with all the official paperwork.
Hostel: As it is a distance learning programme, I did not stay at a hostel. Students do not need to commute to the university. They can continue their studies in a distance learning mode from their homes. However, they need to go to the regional IGNOU study centre from time to time to take care of all the formalities.
