Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology Bhubaneswar has been ranked 22nd in the NIRF 2024 rankings for Agriculture and Allied Sectors. Established in 1962, the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) is the second oldest agricultural university in India and the only one in the state of Odisha. OUAT has gained a reputation for its teaching methods, research, and extension education.
The university comprises 12 constituent colleges that offer a wide range of undergraduate courses. OUAT courses are offered in Agriculture, Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Engineering & Technology, Horticulture, Fishery Science, Forestry, Community Science, and Basic Science.

OUAT UG Selection Process: The selection process for undergraduate courses at OUAT involves a Common Entrance Examination (CEE) for various courses such as B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, B.Sc.(Hons.) Horticulture, B.Sc.(Hons.) Forestry, BFSc, B.V.Sc. & AH, B. Tech. (Agril. Engg.) and B.Sc. (Hons.) Community Science. The candidates are selected based on their academic career and performance in the CEE, which is used to calculate a weighted score for each candidate. In case of a tie between two or more candidates, the merit positions will be decided based on higher marks in the CEE, class 12 Science, or class 10/equivalent in that order.
OUAT PG Selection Process: The Admission Board at OUAT conducts the selection process for admission into different Master’s programmes. For admission into the Master's program, a merit list is created based on entrance exam scores and extracurricular activities (where applicable). In case of a tie, the final CGPA/marks are considered in the following order: highest entrance mark, OGPA/percentage in graduation level, class 12 Science marks, class 10 exam marks, and age (with older candidates ranked higher).
OUAT PhD Selection Process: The OUAT PhD selection process is based on merit, with discipline-wise merit lists prepared by the admission committee. The merit list is based solely on entrance exam scores, with tie-breakers determined by highest entrance mark, OGPA/percentage in Master's or Bachelor's level, class 12 Science marks, and age.
The OUAT placement cell aims to provide constructive career counselling and interactive seminars for students, helping them pursue careers in areas such as OPSC, UPSC, Civil Services, MBA, and more.
The Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology placement cell also organises campus interviews for final year students and arranges special coaching classes for those appearing for competitive exams. Medical Facility: OUAT Health Centre offers regular OPD services, physiotherapy, a well-equipped pathology laboratory, round the clock ambulance service, and medical assistance when needed. It also conducts school health programmes and offers facilities for ECG, national immunisation programmes, and distribution of T.B. and Leprosy medicine.
TVCC (Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex): OUAT's TVCC offers OPD and indoor services for large and small animals, ultrasonography, computerised X-ray, endoscopy, ECG, and labs for pathology, biochemistry, microbiology, and parasitology. It also has dormitories, seminar and meeting halls, a library, an internet room, and OTs.
Seminar Hall: OUAT's seminar hall was inaugurated on 24th August 2001 by Sri Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Odisha, on the 40th Foundation Day of the university.
Sports Complex: OUAT's sports complex, established in 1976, offers facilities such as a gymnasium hall with multi-trainer equipment, indoor halls for badminton and table tennis, playgrounds for football and hockey, volleyball courts in hostels, and a basketball court with sophisticated backboards. It also has a Kho-kho field for women.
Students who enrol at OUAT can claim various scholarships based on merit and need. Three entities provide OUAT scholarships. The first is the university itself, the second is the government of Odisha, and the third is the ICAR Talent Scholarship (NTSPG). The Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology scholarships provided by the university are available for two programmes. The first is for master's degree students, and the second is for doctoral degree students. The scholarship is provided for each discipline under these degrees.
The Government of Odisha also offers several scholarships for OUAT students belonging to the SC, ST, and minority groups. The Post Matric Scholarship covers the tuition fees and maintenance costs, and the SC and ST Welfare Department decide the amount.
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) also offers OUAT scholarships to PG students in Veterinary Science, M.Sc (Ag.), M.Tech.(Ag. Engg.), and MFSc. The Talent Scholarship (NTSPG) provides a monthly stipend of Rs 12,640, along with a contingency grant of Rs 6000 per annum.
