The Khatra College (HS Unit) was established in the South Bankura District of West Bengal in 1976. The University of Burdwan had granted affiliation to the degree college known as ‘Khatra Adibasi Mahavidyalaya’ in 1979. It brought in two courses, Arts and Commerce (general). The college was inaugurated by the then Honorable Chief Minister, Govt. Of West Bengal, Sri Jyoti Basu, on November 18, 1979.
With gradual progress, science degree courses (general) were introduced by Sri Partha De, the then Honorable Minister of Secondary Education of West Bengal. The college has also availed remedial classes and financial assistance for the SC, ST, and OBC communities with the assistance of UGC since 2010. Students are awarded scholarships based on their academic performance, attendance in-class lectures, and the economic condition of their families. The Khatra Adibasi Mahavidyalaya (KAM) is at a distance of about 3 km from the sub-divisional town of Khatra and is located beside the Bankura-Jhilmil highway. It is under the Bargarh Mouza of the Super Gram Panchayat.

One teacher received national award and another teacher was felicitated for pioneering work in spreading child education.
The college is situated far away from the bustle of the town. The Khatra Adibasi Mahavidyalaya campus is over 25 acres of land. The area is surrounded by trees of various species. The campus provides a harmonious atmosphere for academic pursuits.
The college provides the students with all convenient amenities. Some of the facilities include well-ventilated classrooms, recreational areas, hostel facilities for boys and girls, indoor and outdoor games, a stocked library, seamless internet/ wi-fi connectivity, medical facilities, etc.
It has two sports complexes within the premises, a multigym, and four labs for the students.
Besides, every department has projector and laptop facilities to provide better audio-visual aids to improve the class lectures.
Services Offered by the Library
To create a learning ambiance more prominently and explicitly, the central library of Khatra Adibasi Mahavidyalaya has been established. Initially, it was housed in a small room adjoining the staff room. New building Sadhu Ram Chand Bhavan, was established in the year 2006.
The central library is open every working day from 10 am to 5 pm. The library has a stock of 33807 books and 5 journals suB.Scribed for. They also have suB.Scribed to the NLIST-INFLIBNET programme to be enriched with ample amounts of e-contents. Except for college funds, the Khatra Adibasi Mahavidyalaya purchases books from different grants such as RUSA grants and different government grants.
During the last three years, 3451books were added, and KAM plans to add some more journals. Recently the library has become two stories with a large area above 4500sq.ft. It has a full-time librarian, a contractual library assistant, and a full-time library peon. The sitting capacity in the library room is 30. On average, 90 books are issued, and 50 books are returned per day.
Though due to the COVID pandemic situation in the last two years, the issue return rate is not so high. Recently the college has created a portal of their central library though the work in the portal is still going on. There are ten computers in the library. It has books from different departments and subjects such as Bengali, English, Sanskrit, History, Pol. Sc, Physical Education, Commerce, Philosophy, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Santali, Environment Science, Computer Science, Geography, Music, Library Science, Education, and reference books (including minor research projects). It has four large stack rooms and different toilets for staff and students. And last but not least, computerization is done using SOUL 2.0 software.

Eligibility Criteria for Khatra Adibasi Mahavidyalaya Scholarships
Category A: The students of classes 11 and class 12 are eligible for this scholarship. The minimum percentage for boys students is 65% (75% for Karnataka & WB students) and 60% marks for girls students (70% for Karnataka & WB students).
Category B: Students who are currently studying the ITI course are eligible for this scholarship. There is no income certificate required for these students. The minimum percentage required in the last exam is 50% for boys and 40% for girls students.
Category C: Candidates who are currently pursuing any graduate or postgraduate degree from any recognised university are eligible for Sitaram Jindal Scholarship. The minimum percentage for boys students is 65% (75% for Karnataka & WB students) and 60% marks for girls students (70% for Karnataka & WB students).
Category D: The students taking admission Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Environment Scientist, Journalism, etc., are eligible to apply for Sitaram Jindal Scholarship 2018. The annual gross family income should not exceed 2.5 lakhs for applying for this scholarship. The minimum percentage for boys students is 60% and 55% marks for girls students.
Category E: Candidates who are currently studying for graduate or postgraduate degrees in Engineering and Medical can apply for SJ Scholarship under this category. The minimum percentage for boys students is 70% (75% for Karnataka & WB students) and 65% marks for girls students (70% for Karnataka & WB students).

At the beginning of every academic year of Khatra Adibasi Mahavidyalaya, each department holds explanatory meetings presided over by the HOD to earmark portions of the syllabi for each teacher. A time frame is made beforehand so that the teachers have adequate time to prepare and discuss their portions of the course and get feedback from the students. Midterm departmental meetings monitor the progress in this regard. Regular periodical class tests ensure that the syllabi are properly covered.
Tutorial / additional remedial classes are held. The academic calendar, issued at the beginning of the academic year, lists the teaching programmes' examination dates and holidays.
The English department provides academic cinema and a creative section to create interest in the students.
