Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya (VM) Burdwan was founded on the eve of Swami Vivekananda's Birthday in the year 1963. This initiative was taken by the District Magistrate of Burdwan, Mr K.P.S. Menon, Chairman of Zilla Parishad, Mr Narayan Chowdhury, and other citizens of Burdwan. Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya fees are reasonable and affordable for students to pay.

Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya has significantly grown in infrastructure and education since its inception. It now provides hostel facilities and is also equipped with an attentive placement cell. Furthermore, it is set in peaceful surroundings away from the noise of the town and is ideal for pursuing higher studies in the major arts and science subjects. 

Recently, three buildings have been constructed to accommodate the increasing strengths of students. In addition, various postgraduate and degree honours courses have been introduced. It fulfils the needs of students and provides them with a healthy, disciplined, and meaningful learning environment. 

The Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya courses offer both general and honour courses in different disciplines. It includes BA and B.Sc in the general category. Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya in Burdwan provides three years of degree in subjects like Sanskrit, Bengali, Economics, etc. It also offers a four-year B. Sc honours in various science combinations like Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, etc. 

Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya placement has its own Students Placement and Counselling Cell, which functions throughout the year for the benefit of the students and guides them throughout the placement process. 

At Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya, financial assistance is provided to the needy and deserving students through various scholarships and stipend programmes initiated by the Government. SC/ST students get special financial assistance through various scholarship programmes.  Students also get aid from the Government through ‘Jatiya Rin Britti Prokolpo’ by the West Bengal state government. 

Eligibility Criteria for Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya Scholarships

The eligibility criteria for Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya scholarships are mentioned below:

Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya, Burdwan, scholarships applicants who require financial aid to continue their studies, they must receive a minimum of qualifying grades in previous classes. Scholarships are also provided to students who perform well in higher secondary or graduation. They must show some essential documents to apply for scholarships at Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya:

• The previous year's study certificates and mark sheets.
• The Income Certificate/ caste certificate. 
• Certificate to show nativity and Aadhar card.
• Scanned copy of  Bank Passbook of student’s parents/ student’s.
• Physically handicapped certificate for handicapped, BPL certificate for BPL students.
• Passport-size Photographs.

Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya has recently started a PG course in Chemistry, which provides an option for students to pursue masters in science. 

The faculty members are continuing research projects in different fields, enlarging their expertise horizons.

The university provides several undergraduate courses in arts, science, and commerce background. Admission to VM's undergraduate programs is based solely on merit and marks secured in the qualifying examination. The students should have passed Class 12 regular with a minimum of 30%. 

The institution provides courses in BA general and honours and B.Sc general and honours for 3-year courses available in the arts, science, and commerce. The institution also provides postgraduate in chemistry (2-year course)  for students who wish to pursue further education in sciences.
