Central University of Kerala came into existence in 2009 under the Central Universities Act 2009 (Parliament Act No. 25 of 2009). Approved by UGC and graded A by NAAC, the university has also been ranked fifth in the academic and research excellence category and first among the south Indian states. In a recent study conducted as part of the Top 20 Outlook-ICARE Ranking, CU Kerala is ranked 11th.
Currently, there are 12 schools and 27 departments at CU Kerala offering around 50 courses in different levels of study.
