The campus is located at Valiamala, about 25 kms from Thiruvananthapuram city, on the way to the famous hill resort of Ponmudi. The sitemap has two campuses planned spread over a total area of around 100 acres situated close to the foot hills of Sahyadri ranges. At present, the Academic campus which also houses the student hostels is nearing completion. The institute provides full-fledged infrastructure of international standards to develop an excellent academic and research atmosphere. Modern environment friendly buildings of unique architecture merge well with the surrounding forest area. The academic activities spread across four blocks – Aerospace, Physical Sciences, Avionics and Interdisciplinary. Of these the first two are fully functional and host all the seven departments. The Academic blocks are equipped with spacious lecture halls and well-designed research and curriculum laboratories. The Academic blocks also house the offices of the faculty members and research scholars. An imposing Library building is centrally located. IIST also has an Astronomical Observatory situated on the roof top of the Physical Sciences building.
IIST has currently 11 hostels functioning in the campus, built based on contemporary architecture. The hostels are named after the mythological constellations ‘nakshatras‘.
Each of these hostel-blocks has well-ventilated rooms designed to accommodate students on single and shared occupancy basis. The hostel rooms are furnished with cots, study-tables, chairs, cupboards and bookshelves, enabling comfortable stay and to ensure a learning conducive environment. Each floor has common washrooms with modern sanitation facilities. Hygiene and cleanliness of the rooms, floors and surroundings are taken care of by routine house-keeping services.
There are separate hostels for B.Tech, M.Tech and Research Scholars and around 800+ students reside in the campus B.Tech and M.Tech programs being fully residential. Hostels are located in the quieter part of the campus with proximity to mess and cafeteria and a medical centre which functions round the clock. Each hostel has provision for safe drinking water with hot and cold water dispensers, 24 Hr uninterrupted power supply with generator backup, housekeeping services, reading room with national and vernacular newspapers, indoor games facility, LCD television with satellite connection etc. and centralized gym facility with modern fitness equipments. All hostels are WiFi enabled with High-Speed Access to the Internet, Digital Library and other Digital Learning Resources. A laundry service provider, a nationalised Bank with ATM facility and a book stall is available in the campus in the close vicinity to the hostels to meet the needs of resident students.
Infrastructure: We have to travel 2km to go to the football ground and the swimming pool is located outside the campus which is very far other than that every aspect of it is good
Hostel: We get a spacious room with two people per room and the bathrooms are okay we get hot water and they are clean, we don't have an air conditioner though it will get boiling in summer
Infrastructure: The campus will have 24/7 medical facilities available. There will be two white canteens on the premises. All types of sports courts will be accessible including inter-house tournaments held annually. The mess will serve both north and south Indian varieties and the campus will be filled with greenery.
Hostel: hostel goes beyond the basics, offering exceptional cleanliness, comfort, and security. It stands out with unique features, excellent customer service, a vibrant social atmosphere
Infrastructure: All that you want from any college is available here. Educational support and others are available like your hobby. For education there is a library and all over building. And for sports there is a garden.
Hostel: I know the image comes to our mind when we hear hostel but believe me it isn't like any other hostel. Home like room and food are available for everyone.
Infrastructure: Good infra , nice building and proper infrastructure, good enough labs and peoper are loving the ac here , if u want to see good high class infrastructure come here
Hostel: Good hostel and I have to get my money done by the time you come back. Good food and people were just asking if u was going out there since they had to come in the morning to go back.
Infrastructure: Being built in a hilly region it is extremely beautiful with two ponds, beautiful buildings, one central garden, and 12 hostel blocks, 4 academic blocks, 1 massive, well equipped library, 1 Administrative block, curvy, inclined roads weaving all these together. There is a student activity center (SAC) building which houses TT Courts, indoor badminton courts, chess and carrom and pool tables, A gym and the main mess. Adjacent to it is a Multipurpose hall, and an open air theatre. Sports facilities include a basketball court, Volleyball court, A newly built football turf and a large football ground on a hill top adjacent to the campus. Also there is a medical office and a cafetaria within the campus. The campus is relatively small compared to IITs but for the meagre strength of 1500 from B.Tech to PhD the facilities are adequate.
Hostel: There are 12 hostel blocks. First year students will get 3 sharing rooms while 2nd year onwards the rooms are 2 sharing. Each room has one bed one almirah and one study table+ chair for each student. WiFi is available in all hostels and any maintainence work is resolved quickly after complaint is placed. There are no restrictions on entering and leaving the hostel (except for first year students). The boys hostels are seperate for each batch but girls have a single hostel for all batches. Ragging is almost non existent and seniors are very supportive to their juniors. It is very safe for the girls as it is a small and secure campus. CISF security ensures no safety issues occur within the campus. Mess works on booking basis so students pay only for the meals they eat. Overall I've had no problems with the hostels.
Infrastructure: Sports facilities little less. Although new facility are opening like new basketball court was made recently. New football turf was also made Academic building are good . Library is the best part of iist .
Hostel: Nice hostels bigger rooms than other colleges . Toilets are also clean. Sometimes there is water problem but after complaining it gets right so yes they are nice
Infrastructure: The infrastructure was very good and was clean campus with CISF protected. It has more research facilities and many labs. Unlike other colleges this college mostly concentrates on research.
Hostel: hostel rooms and all are good in 1 st year you will have 3 sharing and rest of the years 2 sharing. The college was clean and good maintainance. They will provide, chair, cot,an almirah and a study table in hostel room.
