Assistantship

IIST provides financial assistance funded by the Department of Space (DoS), Government of India for students admitted to B.Tech and dual degree programmes. The assistantship covers the expenses such as Tuition and Students Amenity fees, hostel (including dining) and Establishment charges and medical expenses. An additional Book allowance of Rs. 3000 per semester is also provided.

This assistantship will be continued beyond the first semester for those students (other than those belonging to SC, ST and PD category) who secure a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 7.5 ** (in a scale of 10) in every semester. Failing this they have to remit the pre-notified fees (Tuition and Students Amenity Fees, hostel, dining and Establishment charges and medical expenses) for the next semester.

For students belonging to SC, ST and PD categories, this assistantship will be continued beyond the first semester only if they secure a minimum GPA of 6.5 ** (in a scale of 10) in every semester. However SC, ST, PD category students who secure a GPA of 5.5 and above, but less than 6.5 (in a scale of 10) in every semester have to remit the pre-notified fees except for the Tuition fees for the next semester. SC, ST, PD category students who secure a GPA of less than 5.5 (in a scale of 10) in every semester have to remit the entire pre-notified fees (Tuition and Students Amenity Fees, hostel, dining and Establishment charges and medical expenses) for the next semester.

** GPA criteria for students joining in 2013 and later. For B.Tech students who have joined IIST before 2013, the GPA criteria of 6.0 (in a scale of 10) remains the same for all categories of students.

Fellowship

  • Research scholars selected for IIST Ph.D. programme with Post Graduate (PG) Degree in Basic Science with NET or equivalent qualification OR Graduate Degree in Professional Course with NET or equivalent qualification OR Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course will receive a Fellowship of Rs.25000/- per month.
  • After two years of research experience, their performance will be evaluated by a review committee. Based on the review, the fellowship amount may be enhanced to Rs.28000/- per month.
  • The scholars will be required to assist the Departments in tutorials / practicals or related academic activities normally limited to 6 hours per week
  • The scholars will have to pay for the services provided by the Institute like boarding / lodging / medical facilities etc., as per IIST rules.
