IIT Bombay Secures Rs 700 Crore for R&D in 2024

IIT Bombay has achieved its largest-ever annual research and development (R&D) funding, securing Rs 700 crore in 2024. This is a significant increase from Rs 576 crore in 2023 and Rs 502 crore in 2022. The funding comes from both government agencies and private industries, with around 35% of the funds contributed by private sources.

IIT Bombay is focusing on projects that support India's goal of becoming more self-reliant in technology. One of the key projects is the Maharashtra Drone Mission, with Rs 151.8 crore funding from the state’s technical education department. IIT Bombay's R&D efforts are also growing due to increased industry outreach and participation in government research missions. This funding makes R&D the institute's second-largest source of income after government support.

Dear Sohail Imtiyaj Khan,

Unfortunately, IIT Bombay does not offer any lateral entry programme for B.Tech. IIT Bombay admissions to the B.Tech programme are made through the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) exam. However, IIT Bombay does offer a dual degree (B.Tech + M.Tech) programme in some departments, and students who have completed a diploma in engineering from a recognised institute are eligible to apply for admission to the second year of the dual degree program through the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) exam.
