Swami Shraddhanand College started as an educational institution under the University of Delhi in 1967. The college campus, which is undergoing its transformation to become a Green Campus in the coming years, is spread across 10 acres of land. A co-ed education, Swami Shraddhanand College boasts itself as one of Delhi University's premier institutions.
Commonly known as SSNC Delhi, the college offers courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels under 16 departments, namely, Botany, Commerce, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, English, Geography, Hindi, History, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Physical Education, Political Science, Sanskrit, and Zoology. Swami Shraddhanand College admissions are done based on the candidate's performance in CUET.
Infrastructure-wise, students at Swami Shraddhanand College are entitled to ICT-enabled classrooms, laboratories, seminar and committee rooms, a girls' common room, a cafeteria, a library, banking facilities, and medical facilities, among several others. However, its location in a remote setting has been a cause of concern for the students over the years. What factors have made Swami Shraddhanand College a good option for some and a not-so-preferable option for others? Let’s find out!
Our Take:
SSNC Delhi has a lot of scope for improvement in various aspects, especially in the NIRF Ranking parameters like Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Peer Perception. According to students, Swami Shraddhanand College is comparatively at a low preference level out of all the constituent colleges of Delhi University. A lot of Delhi University constituent colleges are placed in the NIRF Ranking 2023, and Swami Shraddhanand College not being on the list justifies the student opinions mentioned above.
Based on NEP-2020 guidelines, SSNC Delhi has adopted the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework- 2022. All Swami Shraddhanand College courses at the undergraduate level have been offered in UGCF semester mode since the academic session 2022-23. The college stresses on both theoretical and procatical learning to support the overall growth of its students.
The approved intake, as mentioned in the SSNC Delhi prospectus 2022 after the adoption of the UGCF 2022 model, is as follows:

Sports that students can enjoy in college are Cricket, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Kabaddi, Softball, Baseball, Athletics, and many others. The college also claims to have spacious grounds and relevant sports materials for students to enjoy their sports.
Our Take:
The prospectus and Annual Report 2022-23 highlight that Swami Shraddhanand College emerged victorious in various cricket tournaments. Notably, they clinched the title in the intercollege cricket tournament of 2019-20. Their achievements include securing the championship in the Sahibzada Zorawar Singh T20 tournament by defeating the reigning champions, AIR INDIA, in the finals. Furthermore, the cricket team of Swami Shraddhanand College achieved success by becoming champions in the 2nd Amit Vashisht Foundation T-20 cricket tournament held at VPO-Rewari Khera, Bhiwani. This proves that SSNC provides students with the needed exposure to sports.
Swami Shraddhanand College provides a separate common room for the girls' students. There are a total of 3 such rooms, 1 in the old campus, and 2 such rooms available in the new campus. Students have said that the facilities available in the common rooms include a drinking water facility, a water cooler fitted with a water purifier, a washroom, a sanitary pad dispenser & decomposer, furniture, electricity, fans, AC, etc.
Our Take:
Even though the college has provided the needed facilities for the females, maintenance has been an issue. Students have opined that bathrooms are not cleaned regularly and it becomes difficult to use them at times.

According to the IIQC Report 2023, the following data on students gender diversity was obtained:
Particulars |
Numbers |
Male |
2849 |
Female |
1148 |
Our Take:
As per the above data, the female percentage stands at only 28.72%, making the male-to-female ratio around 3:1, which is fine. It is quite evident that the college provides various facilities for female students exclusively to make them comfortable wth the campus life. It encourages more female students to apply for admission to the college.
According to the college’s IIQC Report 2023, the following data has been extracted that highlights the quantitative aspect of teaching and non-teaching staff:
Particulars |
Numbers |
Male |
97 |
Female |
73 |
Total |
170 |
Our Take:
As per the data above, the faculty-to-student ratio stands at a satisfactory ratio of 1:23, However, in the SSNC Roster Report 2023, it is found that a total of 41 faculty seats are vacant. As the seats are allocated based on the student intake, the absence of quite a considerable number of faculty members must be filled at the earliest. Also, after analysing the student comments it is found that the faculty of the arts department is the most favoured among the colleges under Delhi University.
Particulars |
Numbers |
Male |
105 |
Female |
27 |
Total |
132 |
Our Take:
According to the IIQC Report, there are a total of 132 non-teaching staff. According to the comments received by students, the conduct of the administrative and management staff has been good. However, they have also opined that the administrative proceedings are slow at times and require 2-3 visits to get their query solved.
Located at Alipur in New Delhi, Swami Shraddhanand College closest railway station is Holambi Kalan Railway Station, which is at a distance of 5 km from the college premises. The closest airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport at a distance of around 41 km and DTC Narela Depot is the closest bus depot at a distance of 8 km from the college. Most of the students prefer travelling through the metro. The closest metro station is Samaypur Badli (Yellow Line).
Our Take:
The college's location presents a significant challenge for students. Located approximately 7 kilometres away from the nearest metro station, Samaypur Badli, students are required to commute an additional distance to reach the campus. This extended journey often causes stress for students, particularly during exam periods, as they must navigate multiple modes of transportation.
Swami Shraddhanand College has earned its reputation for providing one of the best programs in Arts and Commerce at the undergraduate level. The faculty from the art department has also received a lot of appreciation from the students. Currently, functioning in its 2 campuses, commonly known as the Old Campus and New Campus, the college’s effort in transforming itself into a Green Campus is well-applauded by the students.
However, location has proved to be a big disadvantage. Located on the outskirts of Delhi, students are forced to travel long distances to reach the college. Thus, it is seen that many students prefer other constituent colleges of Delhi University over Swami Shraddhanand College. Furthermore, students have complained that the classrooms are not maintained properly. Hygiene issues in the restroom have also been highlighted by students. Faculty-wise, students have expressed that faculty are approachable and the quality of teaching is good. However, a lot of faculty positions are vacant that the college must take care of. Overall, if location is not an issue, SSNC Delhi is a good option for those students who wish to study Arts.
