Kumaun University is a public university established in 1973 with the merger of government colleges namely D.S.B. Govt. PG College, Nainital, and Almora Govt. PG College, Almora. It is recognised by UGC and is accredited by NAAC with an A Grade. As per QS World Ranking 2024, Kumaun University has secured 651-700 rank. Around 20 govt colleges, 61 private institutions, and a government-aided college are affiliated to this university thereby making it Uttarakhand’s largest university.
