The Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI) is a postgraduate medical centre focused on treating patients with chest ailments and conducting research in the field. The institute, which is administered by Delhi University and wholly sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, was founded in 1946 and then officially inaugurated on January 12, 1953. 

Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute courses offered are DM, MD, and Ph.D. spread over five different specialties for the MD and PhD.

For admission to the MD programme, students must pass the National Eligibility Entrance Test Post-Graduate (NEET PG), which is followed by online counselling. Candidates must pass the National Eligibility Entrance Test Super Speciality (NEET SS), followed by online counselling, in order to be admitted to the Pulmonary Medicine DM programme.

VPCI Delhi MD Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must have successfully completed a one-year mandatory rotating internship and submit their internship completion certificate before or at the time of appearing for the counselling. They must also have passed the final M.B.B.S. examination from the University of Delhi.

The applicant must be fully registered with the Dental Council of India, Delhi Medical Council, State Medical Council, and Medical Council of India.

VPCI Delhi MD Selection Criteria

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, will handle a 50% All India Quota and a 50% Delhi University Quota. 

  • A candidate must receive 50% in NEET PG in order to be considered for admission. 
  • The NEET PG cut-off for SC/ST/OBC is 40%.

Candidates must possess a Master's degree or a professional degree in the same or related fields, certified equivalent to the Master's degree by the relevant statutory regulating authority, with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 55%. For the castes with reservations, there is a 5% relaxation.

The following steps will be used to accept Ph.D. candidates in a two-stage procedure: 

  • Once a year, an entrance exam will be held. 
  • One interview each year, or more if a Ph.D. is necessary 
  • Candidates who have successfully completed the UGC-NET (including JRF), UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF), DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF, DST-INSPIRE, AYUSH-NET, or a comparable national level examination, fellowship, or teacher fellowship (as determined by DRC), may go straight to the interview. 
  • 50% of the questions on the entrance exam's syllabus will be on research ability or methodology, and 50% will be about particular subjects.

Therefore, there will be questions related to these specializations combined in the OBGYN paper. It is required to study Gynaecological, Oncology and Reproductive Medicine to achieve good scores. However, Gynaecological and Oncology focuses on cancers of the female reproductive system, while Reproductive Medicine addresses infertility and reproductive health issues. Therefore, by preparing both topics, students will be able to tackle questions that may question the concepts from oncology to reproductive health medicine.
