Jadavpur University MSc : Fees, Courses, Eligibility & Admission 2024

Overall: It is the best state funded institute ever in India. JU maintained it top rank position constantly for several years. Primarily it is popular for it's Engeneering branches and placement but there are top renowned faculty members in other streams as well. Undoubtedly the most affordable university in the entire country where one can expect to get their degree within just 5k-10k rupees only. It has 2 huge beautiful campus (other one is in Salt Lake). There so many cultural club/society who are actively organised so many programs and fests through out the years. Many people think JU is very much unstable when it comes to students politics but the reality is a little bit different. We all are united whenever needed. Union helps students in so many ways. Getting sufficient government funding in time is one of the main problem in this university. Other than that the administrative department of this University is little bit slow.

Placement: JU is popular all over India primarily for it's huge placement facilities. Almost every students of Engineering branches get placed who sit for the campus placement. Computer science and Engineering branches are ahed in campusing. They get above 1 crore highest package in every placement drive. Companies like Google, Amazon, Meta etc top multinational companies visit for the campus placements. Average package is nearly 10 lakh annually. It's a dream university for so many students only for it's placement facilities. Apart from Engeneering department, other schools/department students are also eligible to sit for the campus placement but the avarage packages are very low in this case. Mass Communication and Journalism get sufficient package from humanities discipline. After the Pathetic incident of Swapnadip Kundu the reputation of this university slightly changed and many companies who previously visited for placement now they do not visit for the campus placement.

Infrastructure: Jadavpur University's infrastructure is a blend of modern and heritage buildings, spanning 58 acres with well-maintained gardens and green spaces. Academic facilities include modern classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, and research centers like the Advanced Research Centre and Centre for Advanced Studies. The central library boasts over 5 lakh volumes and digital resources, supplemented by departmental libraries. Student amenities comprise spacious hostels, hygienic canteens, recreational facilities, and a stadium. While offering campus-wide Wi-Fi and modern computer centers, areas for improvement include inadequate parking, limited on-campus housing, and outdated departmental infrastructure. There are total 10 canteens in this University. The campus is filled up green trees, lakes.

Faculty: Faculty strength is one of the reason that makes JU special. Each department has very renowned world class and experienced professors with diverse specialisation. JU has enough faculty members but still there are some postion are still vacants and is not full filled for so many years. In my department all the professors are very much student friendly. They take regular classes and guide us for so many co and extra curricular activities. They take regular assessments and arrange seminars.

Hostel: University has a total of 13 hostel including two campuses. 9 of them are Boys hostel and rest are women hostel. Each hostel has mess facility and the food is average. Hostel is somewhat clean. Ragging was the previous culture of these hostels but after the pathetic incidents of Swapnadip Kundu in 2022, the ragging culture is no more there. The hostel is almost free. Approximately 300 Rupees is taken as electricity charges and room rent for the entire year. The monthly mess charges is between 1700-2400 Rupees depending on the hostel. The hostel gate closed after 10 pm. Not all students get hostel, only economically weaker students who is from a remote district get the opportunity to stay in Hostel. Hostels are situated in very nearby distance from the University. 2-4 students are alloted in a room depends on the specific hostel. Drinking water facility and Electricity is okay.

Overall: Putting my studies at college behind me, I would like to share my views. However, I still will enjoy. I would recommend all the youngsters to think about this college. To sum up, I am glad with where I am right now and I definitely can recommend this institution to others who are aiming for a good education.

Placement: The fact that the basis for the improving of our skills is the placements in the college is good. The placement cell alerts us the questions we may face in interviews and prevent us from losing job opportunities. A significant number of students have been able to practice themselves in the positions of large organizations.

Infrastructure: The Colg can boast modern classrooms and facilities that range from a gym, an auditorium and computer labs. The university contains a library, labs, and a study reading room with all the facilities and material needed for students to work on their assignments.

Faculty: Professors serve as role models for students’ difficult academic obstacles. They avail the support to us, without bothering with the clarifications or matters of concern. They play a significant role of making learning undemanding and interesting.

Hostel: I should stay at the good hostel which is comfortable and secure. The rooms are all clean and the rooms are well taken care of. The food joint does a great job making tasty food while offering many options.

Overall: I joined the evening programme of Jadavpur University in 2021 because I was doing a job and could not attend the morning classes. I am a final year student of M.Sc in Physics at JU. The evening programme gave me the opportunity to pursue higher studies at this university. My class has 35 students and the curriculum has a blend of theory and practical knowledge. The teachers are very supportive and intelligent. Exams are quite difficult but if you study well, you will definitely pass. The M.Sc department has a good rate of placement in the teaching and research field.

Placement: It is exciting to see the highest package offered in 2022 was in crores. JU is touching heights in terms of placements. The placement rate is 80% to 85% of the students and those who are left seek higher studies majorly. The placement cycle for my batch (2023) has started. Registration is important to participate in the placement process. As I am already working, I will not be participating in the process.

Infrastructure: The laboratories have all the equipment required to conduct practicals. The classrooms are fine and have working fans. The classrooms of the new academic block, seminar halls and labs have an AC facility. The main campus might be around 6 acres and has large grounds. A sports facility is available. I often play badminton on the outdoor court after classes in the evening. JU's main campus has 6 canteens and a cafe facility. Apart from this, ATM, bank, PO, and health centre are there on the campus.

Faculty: There are 30-35 faculty in the Department of Physics at Jadavpur University. Most of the professors are PhD holders and have 10 years of experience or more. I found most of the professors are alumni of JU. They are doing their best to transfer the JU’s legacy of knowledge. The faculty is student-friendly and helps us whenever we need them.

Hostel: The hostels of Jadavpur University are fine. The rooms are liveable and the food is nice. I have to live in a hostel just to be near the university and manage my work and classes. The electricity bill will be split with the inmates you live with. So, the burden is less. Hostel charges are affordable paid at the rate of Rs 15 for accommodation and Rs 10 for electricity.

Overall: Jadavpur University is a research-oriented university which is considered rare in India. It is one of the top universities in ASIA and BRICS. The fees for every course have been set keeping in view students’ affordability. I passed out from Jadavpur in 2021 with a degree in M.Sc. Though I belong to a lower economic class I didn’t have to take any educational loans to study in this prestigious university. Faculty members at JU are very helpful and educated. ‘Help will always be available at JU to those who seek it.' Zero ragging environment is provided and the placement rate is quite good.

Placement: We can not neglect the fact the university provides great placement opportunities. During 2021-22, 150+ companies visited Jadavpur University for placements. Around 1500 offers were made and the highest package offered at Jadavpur University placement in 2022 was 1.8 Crore. It is huge! Major global giants visit JU such as Google, Meta, IBM, Adobe, TATA, HP, amazon and many more.

Infrastructure: Jadavpur University has rather advanced labs for the engineering departments. M.Sc department labs in particular need a little upgrade. However, getting to access various equipment is enough as compared to the fee charged. The central library has been maintained well and there are more than 30 departmental libraries available. The campus area of Jadavpur University is vast and full of greenery. Various activities are conducted under different clubs. The Jadavpur University Science Club (JUSC) which I was a member does its best to introduce basic robotics and other cool stuff to the students.

Faculty: Every department in Jadavpur has more than 20 professors which is quite good. Some of my favourite teachers from the chemistry department are Tapan Kumar Mondol, Biplan Bhattarjee, and Suman Das. Various activities are held in every department by the professors who push us to participate and learn. So, aspiring students can consider joining Jadavpur University as it has one of the best faculty.

Hostel: Accommodation is never a problem at Jadavpur University. One can easily get a room under affordable charges. The best thing about this university is that it does not charge much fees and helps students from all backgrounds. The university has mess facilities in all the hostels. I lived in Women Hostel - II which has the capacity for around 235 girls.
