NIT Sikkim - Admission 2024, Fees, Courses, Placement, Ranking

NIT Sikkim process of admission to BTech will start with JoSAA registration which will begin from June 10, 2024 onwards. For BTech admission at this institute, students need a valid JEE Main scorecard. The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the JEE Main 2024 session two results and NTA scores for paper one on April 24, 20234. Students will need their JEE Main session 2 application number, date of birth and security pin to access their scorecards. NIT Sikkim cutoff 2024 is expected to be released in the second week of June 2024. Did you know? The number of candidates registered in April 2024 for the JEE Main 2024 session 2 examination was recorded at 11,79,569.

The National Institute of Technology Sikkim, also known as NIT Sikkim or NIT SKM, is situated in the city of Ravangla, Sikkim, India. NIT Sikkim was established in 2010 under the 11th ‘5 Year Plan’ by the Government of India. That same year, ten other National Institutes of Technology were established under the same plan. Through this, the college was included in the chain of 31 NITs in India. NIT Sikkim is an autonomous public engineering institute. The institute functions under the endorsement of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The language of the medium here is English. 

NIT SKM believes in the development of students as ‘Thinking Engineers’. The institute’s vision is to nurture students in enjoying and attaining scientific as well as technical excellence and global exposure. Students at NIT Sikkim are taught to behold the values and philosophy of India and the world as a whole. NIT Sikkim has ten departments working on administrating the courses offered by the college. The courses offered by NIT Sikkim are 17 in number. These courses are offered under four degrees, namely B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc. and PhD. 

The temporary campus of NIT Sikkim is situated in the lap of the beautiful city of Ravangla in Sikkim. The campus is surrounded by great scenic beauty. The institute provides its students with great facilities. NIT Sikkim has computer labs, departmental laboratories, well-equipped classrooms, sports facilities, banks and hospitals in proximity to the campus, etc.NIT Sikkim has a Training & Placement Cell which is the official mediator between the students and companies. The bonafide students of NIT Sikkim can appear for the placement drives by logging in to the institute's official portal of the TnP Cell. 

National Institute of Technology Sikkim has signed the ABROAD LEARNING AGREEMENT with Centre for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH), TU Germany. The agreement materialised when one of our students, Mr. Ankur Sharma (Roll. B100005CS ) joined the Centre for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH), TU Dresden Germany as a visiting exchange student to conduct his one semester along with simultaneous project work for his Bachelor thesis at CIHP, TU Dresden, Germany

The research initiatives of National Institute of Technology Sikkim yielded a positive result when one of its PhD scholars, Mr. Himangshu Sarma, selected to carry out his PhD thesis under the joint PhD programme with University of Bremen, Germany. The said PhD programme is sponsored by CLINK programme of European Union.

NIT Sikkim and IIT Guwahati have come closer on various spheres. The long informal relationship of two sister institutes from North East was materialised into strong academic bonding when IIT G and NIT Sikkim signed an MoU for research and development. The MoU provides various opportunities for the growing institute which includes: 
 

• Informal faculty exchange.
• Assistance in conducting the laboratory examinations of B.Tech students. It is pertinent to mention here that bunch of students were given options for conducting their ECE, CSE and EEE in IIT G for last two years. We have been sending a group of excellent students to IIT G for academic exposure, laboratory classes and examinations.
• IIT G has facilitated NIT Sikkim by providing access to the various placement drives. From the first batch of students of NIT Sikkim many of them have got their jobs by attending these placement drives at IIT G.
• IIT G has also extended access to its library, laboratory and various other sections to the faculty members of NIT Sikkim for their academic pursuits.
• There have been a strong collaboration at the higher up level of these sister institutes for various purposes.

In its pursuit of academic excellence, NIT Sikkim is thriving hard for setting up ever new milestones of success. It was always felt by the higher ups and the faculty members that we should have a strong bonding with one of the most prestigious and recognised institutes.Therefore, NIT Sikkim collaborated with IIT KGP for various academic pursuits which includes the following: 
 

• Students of NIT Sikkim participated in the pool campus drives organised at IIT KGP.
• IIT KGP has provided the access to its library, laboratories and research centers to the faculty members of NIT Sikkim.
• Some of the labs of students of NIT Sikkim are also conducted at IIT KGP. The past two years have witnessed exchange of ideas between the higher ups of NIT Sikkim and IIT KGP in various academic research and innovative planning.
