Types of Degrees Offered in NIT Colleges in India

After the IITs, the NITs are India's most prestigious engineering institutes. NIT colleges in India offer a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate, and dual degree programmes that candidates can pursue. In addition, NITs also offer 5-year dual degree programs in a variety of subjects. There are three NITs in India that offer MBA or BBA programs too. These are NIT Allahabad, NIT Trichy, and NIT Rourkela. Only a few NITs offer 5-year BArch and 4-year BSc degrees.

NIT Colleges in India 2024: Eligibility Criteria

The NIT admission process is entirely merit-based. Mentioned below is the eligibility criteria for securing admission into the top NIT colleges in India.

  • Candidates are required to qualify their 10+2 with a minimum aggregate of 75% marks from a recognized Board. Candidates from SC/ST category are provided with a relaxation of up to 65%

  • For BTech admission, candidates are required to qualify for the JEE Main and GATE for admission into ME/ MTech courses

  • For other popular programmes such as MBA, MCA, MSc, etc, candidates are required to qualify for entrance exams such as CAT, NIMCET, IIT JAM, etc.

  • Candidates who qualify for the entrance exams may be also required to appear for Group discussions or personal interview rounds.

  • As per the current NIT admission policy, half of the total seats at NITs are reserved for candidates who have cleared their Class 12 from the particular state where the NIT is situated. The remaining half is allotted based on the AIR (All India Ranks) secured by candidates from different states.

Entrance Exam for NIT Admission

To be admitted to the NIT colleges in India, candidates must pass entrance exams. The NIT entrance exams are different for bachelor's and master's degrees. When does NIT admission start? Candidates for BTech courses are accepted through the JEE Main exam which is conducted every year. The syllabus for JEE Main exam is prepared based on the CBSE Class 12 Syllabus . JoSAA publishes category and round-based opening and closing ranks and cutoffs for admission to NITs bachelor, master, and dual degree programs. Hello Durgesh, the cut-off for admission to K.K. Wagh College of Nursing is based on the marks obtained in the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) for Nursing.
