NIT Sikkim admission 2024 for BTech is based on JEE Main. The admission process for BTech in 2024 will begin with JoSAA registration from June 10 onwards.
The admission process of NIT Sikkim includes entrance exam, cutoff and then the final selection process. Candidates must have passed 12th class board exams from any recognized board to be eligible for B.Tech admissions at NIT Sikkim. The subjects must include Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects. The remaining subjects should be a language and Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational. Candidate must have scored at least 75% marks in 12th board exams. The marks should the aggregate of five subjects. Scores secured by candidates in JEE Main determine whether or not they are going to get admission or not. Candidates need to qualify JEE Main to get admission to various B.Tech courses offered by NIT Sikkim. There is a weightage of 12th class marks in JEE Main scores.
The counselling process involves ranks or scores of registered candidates. Seats are allocated for the B.Tech courses at NIT Sikkim through JoSAA counselling. The marks scored by candidates in class 12 are also taken into consideration during the counselling process.
Admissions Under DASA Scheme
Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Foreign Nationals get direct admission under the Direct Admission of Students Abroad Scheme (DASA). Candidates who hold a bachelors degree from a recognized university are considered eligible to apply for M.Tech courses at NIT Sikkim. The minimum percentage for general category candidates to become eligible for pursuing M.Tech from NIT Sikkim is 60%. For SC/ST students, the minimum percentage is 55 per cent. Candidates wanting to get admission in M.Tech courses offered by NIT Sikkim must qualify Graduate Aptitude Test Engineering GATE. Candidates’ GATE scores or ranks determine their chances of getting admission.
The seat allotment process at NIT Sikkim for M.Tech courses is done by the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech. (CCMT). Only the candidates with valid GATE scores are considered for the selection process.
For M.Sc. Mathematics, candidates should have secured 60% marks or more in B.Sc. degree with Mathematics or Statistics as honours or major subject. For M.Sc. Physics, candidates are required to have scored at least 60% in B.Sc. degree in Physics major/honours or Electronics major/honours with Physics minor. Candidates seeking admission to M.Sc. Chemistry must have secured at least 60% marks in B.Sc. in Chemistry honours/major. In order to get admission to M.Sc. Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, candidates have to appear for a written entrance examination conducted by the institute itself. The entrance exam is called Institute Admission Test (IAD).
