The Institute of Technology Located in Chamoli Gopeshwar, Uttarakhand is a government-sponsored institution. It became a part of Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technological University in 2013 when it was founded as a constituent institute. Founded and funded by the Uttarakhand government, the Institute has been overseen by the Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU).
Government of Uttarakhand, Department of Technical Education established Institute of Technology, Gopeshwar under Act 2005. Vishwa Bharati Uttarakhand Technological University (UTU) in Dehradun is one of the four constituent institutes of this university. The government of Uttarakhand aims to promote and educate the socially and economically disadvantaged on technical education through these institutions. Since 2017, IT Gopeshwar has been self-financing under TEQIP III. An All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approval was granted to each branch in 2015-16, and the license was successfully renewed each year after that.

College students can enjoy a wide range of amenities, including a well-maintained IOT campus that includes a sports complex, well-maintained metalized roads, electricity with a standby generator, telephones, and an underground sewerage system with a running water supply. Hostel guests can use the college's solar water heaters to warm their showers and wash their hands. The college also has CCTV cameras to monitor classroom, laboratory, dormitory, and other general area activities, enabling college authorities to monitor academic activities and have effective administrative control.
