During the India International Science Festival (IISF), the Government of India announced fully sponsored academic fellowship for researchers and scientists of neighbouring countries. The Indian government has taken this initiative to enhance the cooperation in the field of science and technology. The fellowship scheme has been named as the Indian Science and Research Fellowship (ISRF) 2018. The scheme provides a fully paid fellowship to academicians, scientists and researchers and can turn out to be a big support to the Ph.D. scholars.
The following are the seven countries that will be covered under ISRF 2018 Scheme: -
- Sri Lanka
- Nepal
- Myanmar
- Maldives
- Bhutan
- Bangladesh
- Afghanistan

Union Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Harsh Vardhan made the announcement regarding the ISRF Scheme 2018. Explaining about it in detail, he said that the ISRF scheme 2018 would include doctoral students from engineering, science and medical fields for the first time. Through this scheme, the beneficiaries will take up project-related research work in any of the premier institutes across the country for a period of six months. The scheme will play a crucial role in fostering research networks and capacity building.

Mr. Abdul Latif Roshan (Minister of Higher Education – Afghanistan) and Mr. Yeafesh Osman (Minister of Science and Technology – Bangladesh) also attended the Indian International Science Festival. It is a four-day event, which began on October 13, 2017, and will conclude on October 16, 2017. Different programmes like Science Village, a summit on innovative technologies, an industry-academia interaction, a conclave of women entrepreneurs and scientists are also the part of IISF.
