CUSAT CAT 2024 Eligibility Criteria

Cochin Universityhas set the minimum eligibility criteria for CUSAT CAT 2024 that candidates must fulfil in order to become eligible to apply for the examination. Candidates must fulfill all the prerequisites listed as CUSAT CAT eligibility criteria 2024 and check the same carefully before filling the application form. The eligibility norms give a fair idea to the applicants of whether or not they are eligible to apply for CUSAT CAT.

The eligibility criteria describe requirements like age limit, nationality, educational qualification, professional qualification, reservation and relaxation of criteria, etc., for the interested candidates who wish to apply and appear for the CUSAT CAT 2024 exam.

Candidates must make a note that eligibility criteria of CUSAT CAT 2024 will be different for different B.Tech programmes. It will be mandatory for the applicants to satisfy the eligibility criteria, else the applicants will not be granted admission. The authorities are expected to conduct a Common Admission Test (CAT) in the month of April in CBT(Computer Based Test) mode only. Candidates must carefully cross-check the prescribed eligibility criteria of CUSAT CAT 2024.

Apart from B.Tech Programme, CUSAT CAT is also conducted for various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes such as B.Voc Business, M Sc.(5 years integrated), Law programmes, MBA, MCA, M.A programmes and M.Sc., MFSc and M. Voc programmes and M. Tech programmes.

 The detailed eligibility criteria for CUSAT CAT 2024 examination is elaborated below

Nationality Eligibility to Apply for CUSAT CAT 2024

  • Applicant must be an Indian citizen those applying for B.Tech programmes.

  • Also, applicants from Kerala, applying within the state quota must submit domicile documents to confirm the same. 

  • For the rest of the programmes, foreign candidates can also apply. They will need to share NRI documents in order to apply for the same. 

  • Any Indian Citizen /Overseas Citizen of India /Person of Indian Origin is eligible to apply for NRI seats.

Age Limit Criteria to Apply for CUSAT CAT 2024

  • The examination conducting authority has given an age limit for some specific programmes.

  • For those applicants applying for B.Tech Marine Engineering Programme, the maximum age limit is 25 years as of September of the current year.

Number of attempts:

  • There is no restriction on the number of attempts CUSAT CAT examination. The only thing that applicants need to focus on is eligibility criteria.

Educational Qualification for all B.Tech Programme and B. Tech Polymer Science & Engineering (except B.Tech Marine Engineering Programme, B.Tech. in Naval Architecture & Ship Building and B.Tech. in Instrumentation Technology):

  • The applicant should have cleared 10+2 of the State of Kerala or any other equivalent examination with 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry subjects when taken together.

  • Also, the applicant must have secured at least 50% marks in Mathematics separately in the qualifying examination.

  • SEBC applicants of Kerala State belonging to the non-creamy layer category must have obtained 45% (5% relaxation) in the qualifying examination.

  • Applicants belonging to Kerala Scheduled Cast (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) communities are eligible for applying if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination. 

Educational Qualification to Apply for B.Tech Marine Engineering Programme through CUSAT CAT 2024

  • Applicants must have completed their class 12 at least 60% aggregate marks in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in qualifying examination or equivalent from the state of Kerala or any other accepted examination by the University.

  • Also, the applicant must have secured at least 50% marks in Mathematics separately in the qualifying examination.

  • Applicants applying for this programme must have secured 50% marks in English in either Class 10 or 12. This is even applicable to applicants belonging to the reserved (SC/ST) category.

  • Diploma or Vocational applicants are not eligible to appear for CUSAT CAT 2024 examination.

  • Applicants also must have produced the physical and eye fitness certificate from a medical officer approved by the DG Shipping at the time of admission.

Educational Qualification to Apply for B.Tech. in Naval Architecture & Ship Building through CUSAT CAT 2024

  • The applicant must have cleared 10+2 of the State of Kerala or the examination of any other University/ Board accepted by the University as equivalent with 60% marks in PCM ( Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) subjects when taken together.

  • Applicants must have taken the PCM group as compulsory subjects along with other subjects in the qualifying examination.

  • Applicants must have secured at least 50% marks individually in Mathematics.

  • SEBC applicants of Kerala State belonging to the non-creamy layer category must have obtained 55% (5% relaxation) in the qualifying examination.

  • Applicants belonging to Kerala Scheduled Cast (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) communities are eligible for applying if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination. 

Educational Qualification to Apply for B. Tech in Instrumentation Technology through CUSAT CAT 2024

  • The applicant must have obtained 10+2 of the State of Kerala or the examination of any other University/ Board accepted by the University as equivalent with 60% marks in PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) subjects when taken together.

  • Applicants must have secured at least 55% marks individually in Mathematics.

  • SEBC applicants of Kerala State belonging to the non-creamy layer category must have obtained 55% (5% relaxation) in the qualifying examination.

  • Applicants belonging to Kerala Scheduled Caste (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) communities are eligible for applying if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination. 

CUSAT CAT Reservation Policy

The candidates are suggested to take a quick look at the CUSAT CAT 2024 reservation policy:

  • A certain percentage of the total seats will be reserved for candidates belonging to the SC/ST and economically deprived categories and are from Kerala (Communal Reservation Quota Seats)

  • Few seats will be reserved for CUSAT CAT applicants

  • 3% of the total seats will also be reserved for those candidates who are suffering from a disability (only candidates with a minimum of 40% disability will be considered except for Mechanical and Marine Engineering courses)

  • Seats are reserved for blind candidates only in LLM courses and M.A Hindi 

  • 50% of the total seats in MBA is reserved for those candidates who possess work experience of 3 years or more on paper

  • 50% of the total seats in M.Phil is reserved for those candidates who have teaching experience of 2 years or more

  • A few seats are reserved for candidates from Lakshadweep (Lakshadweep Administration Sponsorship Quota)

  • MCA applicants with 3 years or more experience in the related field and sponsored by Government and Research Institute can apply for admission into one of the 2 seats reserved for them (the applicant must be less than 30 years of age)

  • 3 seats are reserved in the M.Sc Industrial Fishery programme for the Fisheries Development Department staff

  • 2 seats are reserved in the Oceanographic programme 

  • 2 seats are set aside for candidates 3 years or more experience in the related field in M.Tech Polymer Technology programme

  • Statistical Engineers appearing for CUSAT CAT will find 2 seats reserved for them

  • 1 seat is reserved in the full-time MBA programme for an Army Officer (to be recommended from the Army Headquarters)

  • 1 seat in each course will be reserved for sports category students

  • A few seats are reserved for Jew community candidates

  • 1 seat in each programme is set aside for wards of ex-servicemen

  • Naval candidates have 15 seats reserved for them

  • Under the supernumerary quota, 2 seats are reserved for candidates from Jammu & Kashmir

As far as CUSAT CAT is considered PwD ( Person with Disability) and DAC (Differently-Abled Candidates) are both used intermittently. There is no major difference between these two categories.
