UPCET 2022 (UPSEE) Tie-Breaking Policy
If the UPCET 2022 Marks of two or more candidates are equal, NTA will use the UPCET 2022 Tie-Breaking Policy to determine which candidate gets a higher position on the merit list. The tie-breaking policy contains certain rules based on which preference will be given to two or more candidates who have scored equal marks in UPCET 2022. Here are the details.
Step 1: Percentage of Incorrect Answers
NTA will check the percentage of incorrect answers given by the candidates. The candidate who has a lower percentage of incorrect answers will be given higher merit.
Step 2: Section-Wise Score and/ or Age
If the first step is not able to break the tie, NTA will check the section-wise scores of relevant sections in UPCET 2022 and/ or the age of the candidate for determining preference. The rules vary as per the course chosen by the candidates and can be found in the following table.
Course | Tie-Breaking Rule |
---|
BPharm | - Higher marks obtained in the Biology, Chemistry sections of the exam.
- Age
|
Integrated MCA | - Higher marks obtained in the Maths/ Statistics/ Accountancy section of the exam.
- Higher marks obtained in Logical Reasoning.
- Age
|
BBA/ BHMCT/ BFA/ BFAD/ BVoc/ MBA/ Integrated MBA/ MCA/ MTech/ MSc/ Laterl Entry | - By age only.

Candidates who are older are given a higher preference by age in UPCET 2022.
Step 3: Application Number
If the first two steps are not able to break the tie, NTA will use the UPCET 2022 Application Number to do so. Candidates who have a lower application number will be placed higher on the merit list. Hence, a candidate who has applied earlier than others will be given preference in the event of a tie reaching the third stage.
