A 96-year-old woman from Kerala, Karthyayani Amma caught the attention of nation by clearing Class 4. On November 01, 2018, Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan presented Class 4 pass certificate to Karthyayani Amma. At the age of 96, she set a new challenge for herself, i.e., learn computers and pass Class 10.
Karthyayani Amma is from Alappuzha district of Kerala. Her dedication and zeal enabled her to score 98 out of 100 marks in Class 4. Kerala State Literacy Mission conducted the exam earlier this year, and the results were announced four days back. When she was informed about the result, she was worried about two marks she lost in the examination. She bagged a perfect score in Malayalam (40/40) and Reading (30/30). However, she scored 28/30 in Mathematics. K. Sathi is one of the volunteers of literacy mission who trained Karthyayani Amma.

Karthyayani Amma planned to attend school in her childhood. However, her family condition was poor and was married off at an early age. Even her daughter Ammini Amma was deprived of education at an early age. The zeal to study did not die in both Karthyayani Amma and Ammini Amma. At the age of 60, Ammini Amma passed Class 10 equivalent exam. It was then Karthyayani Amma decided to study.
At present, Karthyayani Amma is capable to read newspapers and storybooks without anyone’s help. The officials of the literacy mission revealed that Karthyayani is the oldest to clear the literacy test in Kerala. Depending on her interest, she will be enrolled in Class 10, they stated.

The social media was abuzz with the achievement of Karthyayani Amma’s achievement. At the age of 96, she proved that education does not have an age limit.
