The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced a new process which will fast track the approval of the colleges and universities. It will be a virtual inspection due to restrictions across the nation during the lockdown. The Council has said that the application form is available online and the list of documents for verification remains the same as the previous year.
The process is usually done in the month of December for the extension of approval, starting of new courses, changes in the number of intakes and addition of new technical institutions. However, this year the approval process is delayed owing to ongoing litigation
The national lockdown further delayed the process as the approval process involved visits to new institutes and surprise visits to the existing institutes.
Anil Sahasrabuddhe, the chairman of Council said that AICTE will scrutinise documents and will inspect institutes online using Microsoft team without physically visiting the institutes and giving approval to new colleges.

He said that the new method is effective as it saves time. He further said that the institutes will have to show their space, buildings and infrastructure virtually which will be recorded. There will be transparency in the process as the team would anytime do surprise inspection anytime and will also verify if the claimed infrastructure is available and appropriate or not.
