Anna University is planning to leave out that portion from the final year engineering exam syllabus which could not be taught prior to the shutting of the colleges in Tamil Nadu due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The final year B.Tech and B.E students will have to study one less unit for the semester exams.
All the Tamil Nadu engineering colleges were shut down on 17th March 2020 and at that time, only 80% of the total semester syllabus could be completed. The complete lockdown was implemented from 25th March 2020 onwards which resulted in these engineering colleges losing out on 13 working days. The officials met on the 04th of May to decide the future of the semester exams once the lockdown is over.
Several other issues were also brought up in the meeting held on May 05, 2020, like the loss of working days, conducting exams, thesis evaluation of final year students etc. M.K Surappa, the Vice-Chancellor of Anna University said that the eighth-semester engineering students will not be asked any question from the fifth unit.

Although some colleges did complete the remaining portion of the syllabus via online classes, the fact that the majority of the students were from rural areas, there is a doubt regarding how many of them could access the classes owing to poor internet connectivity.
