The students at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) participated in the 101st Convocation Ceremony at the Swantantrata Bhavan. For the occasion, Padma Vibhushan Vijay Kelkar had been called over to be the chief guest. The 101st BHU Convocation Ceremony had been held on 23rd December 2019.
This year, it had been witnessed that a total of 11,529 degrees had been awarded to the graduating students. Out of the total, 732 students were honoured with PhD degrees, while, 4,511 students were awarded their postgraduate degrees. From the university, a total of 6,272 students had also been conferred their undergraduate degrees.
Along with the degree, students excelling in different academic fields were also awarded a total of 508 prizes and medals during the convocation. Among the medals, students had been awarded 2 Chancellor Medals, 2 Late Maharaja Vibhuti Narain Singh Gold Medals along with 29 BHU Medals as well.
The Chancellor Medals were awarded to Shivarchit Mishra and Aman Kumar Trivedi, as they had obtained the highest marks in the final examinations at the postgraduate and undergraduate level, respectively.

Along with students, two faculties from the Faculty of Education and Faculty of Social Sciences had also been awarded D.Litt. degrees. Professor Sunil Kumar Singh from Faculty of Education and Dr Vimal Lahari from Faculty of Social Sciences.

At the 101st BHU Convocation, the Chancellor of BHU, Justice Giridhar Malviya will be presiding over the function. The welcoming speech had been offered by the Vice-Chancellor of the University at the convocation ceremony.
