British Council completes 70 years of service in India. The council announced that it would offer 500 scholarships to Indian students.

British Council to Offer 500 Scholarships to Indian Students

British Council Director (India), Alan Gemmell Obe revealed that the Council would offer scholarships to 500 Indian students for academic exchange programme in the UK (United Kingdom) universities. 44 UK universities offer academic exchange programme, and students who take up the programme in these universities are expected to get scholarships from the British Council. So far, 105 female students from India including six from NE (North Eastern) states have already availed scholarship from the British Council to pursue higher studies in the UK.

Adding further, Gemmell Obe pointed out that more students from Arunachal Pradesh and other North Eastern states would avail the scholarships that are being provided by the Council.

The number of UK visa applications have been increased significantly. The numbers clearly indicate that Indian students are keen to pursue higher education in the UK, pointed out by Gemmell Obe.

British Council completed 70 years of service in India. So far, the Council has played a crucial role in supporting the aspirations and ambitions of millions of young people. The Council’s major initiative to train over one million teachers in government schools across the country has been successful. The Council has constantly been investing in thousands of academic exchange programmes and scholarships.

British Council will soon sign MoU with North Eastern Council (NEC) that would enable the Council to train teachers in the English language in the NE region. For this purpose, the British Council is planning to organise a conclave of North East education ministers in Delhi in November 2018. The Council will organise conclave in collaboration with NEC. More details regarding the conclave will be announced soon.

The conclave will be a great platform for the education ministers of the region to discuss issues pertaining to the education sector and figure out solutions for the same.
