BSTC B.Ed Issue: After the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) issued a notification in 2018 stating that B.Ed candidates will be eligible to teach from classes 1 to 5, lakhs of D.El.Ed aspirants took to the court to protest against the decision as the eligibility granted to B.Ed for primary education directly reduces the employment opportunities of D.El.Ed candidates.
When the case was initially filed in Rajasthan High Court, the court ruled out in favour of the BSTC candidates in 2021, quoting that the REET Notification by NCTE was unlawful. This decision of the high court was further challenged in Supreme Court by the Union Government whose hearing was scheduled on July 19, 2022. However, that hearing stands cancelled as the hearing bench, consisting of Honourable Justice Shri Dinesh Maheswari and Honorable Justice Shri Aniruddha Bose, is on leave.
For now, no new date for the hearing has been issued but it is expected that a revised date and time for the hearing will be announced soon. For the SC hearing today, huge trends on Twitter under #DELED_JUSTICE_SUPREMECOURT have been seen to favour the decision against NCTE 2018 notification.
