COVID-19 lockdown has taken a toll on every aspect of the society and when it comes to higher education institutions, the HRD Ministry has taken a decision to form a panel headed by UGC Chief DP Singh to plan out the academic calendar/planner of the universities.
HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank released a statement stating that another panel will also be formed to look into aspects such as online/ e-learning and online exams. He only took the decision to form an academic calendar committee under the leadership of UGC Chairman. The committee will suggest various measures to deal with the delay in academic sessions of the universities and colleges.
HRD Minister also held a meeting with Vice-Chancellors to motivate their respective faculty and students to make use of SWAYAM and SWAYAM PRABHA e-learning platforms in the mission mode and also through other e-learning mediums.

IGNOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Nageshwar Rao also gave his suggestions to promote online education. Many other important issues were discussed during the meeting such health of students residing in hostels and of the staff university, the role of the management in dealing with mental health issues of the students, salary of all the employees which include daily wage workers, and to carry research on COVID-19.
Renowned universities of the country such as Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) informed that they have created a facility of 40-bed isolation rooms. Most of the varsities are running digital courses so that there is no further delay.
