Delhi High Court took up the hearing on a petition seeking NEET 2022 postponement on July 14. The court has dismissed the petition considering that the last-minute postponement will cause additional stress to students. The court also did not get convinced by the fact that there are floods across some parts of the country because of which NEEET 2022 has to be postponed. Here are some of the major highlights.

Delhi HC Hearing on NEET 2022 Postpone: Highlights (Petition 1)

Here are some of the major highlights of the Delhi HC hearing on NEET 2022 postponement –

  • The counsel representing petitioners explained that there is a flood situation in many parts of the country but the court did not get convinced. The court further noted that monsoons come and go every year
  • The counsel argued that there is a clash with the exam dates of NEET, CUET and JEE Main. Students are burdened with packed schedules. The court indicated that these exams have common subjects and it is good for exam preparation
  • The counsel noted that at least 6 lakh students are appearing for both CUET and NEET. The counsel also noted that there was a demand for the Phase 2 exam of NEET in 2021. The counsel further quoted a past court decision on the NEET issue. However, the court indicated that the counsel misread the past order and did not understand what exact decision was pronounced by the court
  • The counsel indicated that 17 students committed suicide because of the stress faced due to NEET. However, the court indicated that these are vague statements and there is no proof associated with it
  • The counsel noted some newspaper articles on suicides associated with NEET. The court did not consider these facts or articles
  • The counsel noted that there was not sufficient time to prepare for the exam, and the DPL representation was made in May. The counsel read the representation regarding the same
  • The court indicated that the representation read by counsel is vague and not relevant to the current context of the petition
  • The counsel noted that the exam authority schedules the exam in an unorganized manner that is causing additional stress to students
  • The court finally noted that the petition is completely vague and can be dismissed
  • The court concluded that the pressure can be eased only by self-study and wished students all the best with the exams

Another counsel made submissions on NEET 2022 postponement -

  • The counsel indicated that the schedule of exams in the last years was unorganized due to Covid-19 and academic disturbance was there
  • The court noted that the exam schedule has been brought back on track to avoid academic disturbance.
  • The counsel representing the National Testing Agency (NTA) indicated that the delay in the exam will create a havoc
  • The NTA counsel indicated that more than 90% of students have already downloaded their admit card
  • The counsel representing the petitioners requested the bench to keep the petition pending but the court did not agree for that
  • The matter has been dismissed
