DU to Establish School of Public Health Under IoE Scheme

DU to set up the School of Public Health by using funds from the IoE scheme. The establishment of the Public Health School is in response to the need for public health research in light of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Delhi University has released an official statement regarding the establishment of a new public health school, citing the importance of research and the need for manpower in the respective field.

The university administration announced that its Delhi School of Public Health will be established using funds from the Institute of Eminence Scheme (IoE). The university received its IoE tag in September 2019 and the decision to set up the new school is the need for research in public health as the outbreak of COVID-19 has been an eye-opener.

Prof. R N K Bamezai, Specialist- Human Genetics has been ap[pointed as the Honorary Director of the New Public Health School. He has been a former VC of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and the Dean of the School of Life Sciences at JNU. An 11-member advisor council headed by Prof. K Shrinath Reddy has also been constituted to plan and manage the courses of the institute.

The main agenda of the Delhi School of Public Health is to motivate researchers and students to experience a plethora of courses of interdisciplinary nature which are not available at present and to innovate novel ways of diagnosis, and prevention of communicable and non- communicable diseases. The pandemic has taught as that Public Health is the need of the hour and research will be one of our main focus areas informed the DU Registrar.
