Many eminent personalities are a part of the IIM Board of Governors. As industry representatives with an emotional quotient towards the prestigious business schools, the alumni are expected to guide the decisions of the boards.
As per the new IIM Act passed last year regarding the mandatory alumni from the IIMs on the boards, many well-known personalities including Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle, author and speaker Anita Bhogle, founder of Nykaa Falguni Nayar among others are a part of IIMs board positions.
According to the IIM Act, five alumni should be on the board of each IIM across the country. Many eminent personalities who have made their marks in different fields are a part of these boards. At present, there are 20 IIMs across the country .

Harsha Bhogle is an IIM Ahmedabad graduate and is nominated to be on the board of IIM Udaipur . Anita Bhogle is an IIM Ahmedabad graduate as well is now on the list of board of governors of IIM Jammu. Falguni Nayak, another IIM Ahmedabad alumni is nominated to be on the board of IIM Bodhgaya .
The IIMs idea of getting alumni on the board is not very new but the new IIM Act has made it mandatory. The main idea is that alumni guide the decisions of the board as they have sufficient knowledge about the industry along with an emotional quotient towards the institute.

Some of the members of the newly established IIMs have been repeated especially in the older IIMs. However, many board members have been appointed for the first time.
