Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2021 has opened the doors for the non-engineers & younger applicants for the year 2021 which resulted in an evidently increased number of applications. Increasing the number of applications from 8.59 lakh applicants in the previous year, this year a total of 8,82,684 candidates have applied for the GATE 2021 exam. A total of 14,196 candidates have filled the application for the humanities subjects which are newly introduced in the Gate 2021 Exam Pattern . While the most opted subject for Gate 2021 is Mechanical Engineering , Statistics remains the least opted paper this year.

Moreover, this year, there is also a rise in the total number of women applicants for the exam. A large number of applicants for Humanities subjects are women, constituting a total of 8,634 female applicants for the subject. This year a total of 2,88,379 women candidates have filled the GATE Application Form . Compared to the previous year, there have been 10,000 more applicants from women candidates this year.

As per the new guidelines issued by the GATE 2021 exam conducting authority, IIT Bombay , the students who are in their third year of degree can also apply for the exam. While before only the candidates who have completed their graduation or are in the 4th year were eligible to apply. Additionally, IIT Bombay has also allowed the candidates from the Humanities background to apply for the GATE 2021 exam.
