It seems like GATE Biomedical Engineering 2021 exam pattern is expected to undergo major changes. One of the major reasons to justify the revised exam pattern is the number of students who cleared GATE BM 2020. The highest mark secured by a candidate in GATE BM 2020 was 41.67, while the same for other papers such as Computer Science and Engineering was almost 91. Out of 2228 students who appeared for GATE BM 2020, only 58 students have cleared the exam. Out of the total number of qualifiers, 19 students were girls.
GATE BM was a new paper introduced in 2020. The first year witnessed lower cutoff. For instance, the cutoff for General category was 25.0, while the same for SC/ ST/ PwD was 16.6. These reasons will force changes in 2021 BM exam pattern of GATE.
Lack of enough number of mock tests, sample papers might be the major reasons for the fewer number of qualifiers in the exam, while new syllabus is also one of the reasons for the low qualifying marks. Candidates who took the BM exam of GATE 2020 did not have an awareness of the difficulty level of question paper and the syllabus coverage for the same. All these reasons attributed to the fewer number of qualifiers in GATE BM 2020.

On the other hand, IIT Hyderabad is planning to introduce a B.Tech course in Biomedical Engineering. This will be the first IIT in India to launch a UG course in Biomedical.
