Goa University will start the admission process of PhD programme to its varsity and affiliated institutions on March 8, including the National Oceanographic Institute (NOI) and the National Center for Polar and Oceanography. From March 8, 2022 to March 25, 2022, the university will accept online applications for admission, and the interviews will take place between April 11, 2022 to April 13, 2022.
In addition to the 50 seats at NIO, there are 22 seats at Goa College of Engineering and six seats at the Goa College of Music. The university declared that one applicant can apply for maximum three programmes.

The university also declared that students who have qualified the top competitive examinations such as CSIR-UGC/UGC NET JRF/lectureship, SET/SLET/JEST/ICAR-NET of different Indian states/ GATE with a valid certificate are eligible to apply for Admission to the PhD programme for the March 2022 sesion. Further, candidates having who are having DST Inspire fellowship, or MPhil degree as per the UGC guidelines are also eligible to apply.
However, M.Phil. students who have completed their programs using the distance mode will not be considered for the admission. Additionally, the university said that all qualified candidates who have qualified in the Goa University PhD Entrance Test (GU-PET), conducted in December 2020 and August 2021 can also apply for admission to the doctorate seat programme for March 2022 session.
