NSS Unit of the Government Degree College, Rajahmundry organised plantation campaign on 6-June-2016. This campaign was organised to mark the ‘World Environment Day’ celebrations. The plantation campaign was supervised by the NSS coordinator, M. Venkateswara Rao. On this occasion, the students participated actively in the plantation campaign at Narayanapuram, an adopted village of the college.
Around 150 people participated in the campaign and planted saplings in the college premises initially. Later, volunteers visited the village and exposed people to the importance of plantation. Students planted around 250 saplings in the village with the help of villagers. Later they distributed saplings to the villagers and requested them to plant those saplings in their houses. Saplings of Mango, Coconut and Neem were distributed to the villagers. Villagers appreciated efforts of the students of the college.
On this occasion, NSS coordinator, Mr. Venkateswarlu addressed the media. He said that “The village has been adopted by the college for the initiating of various NSS activities. In the present scenario plantation activities must be taken extensively to control the global warming and pollution. This summer there has been a heavy heat wave due to the pollution. Hence taking up plantation activities especially in cities will help in subsidizing the pollution”.
