On March 3, 2022 , the Finance Minister of Gujarat, Kanu Desai, presented the Education Budget 2022-23 for Gujarat. This is the last budget before the assembly elections in Gujarat. The two major highlights of the budget include now newly imposed taxes and the highest budget allocation to the Education sector. Through the budget, the professional tax was also scrapped for people who earn up to 12,000 monthly salaries. Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat CM stated that the budget has been prepared well, having something in account for everyone.

The Gujarat Budget 2022 constituted a total of Rs 2,43,965 crore, largely increased by 17,000 crores as compared the last year's budget. The estimated overall surplus for the budget is 560.09 crores. Out of the overall budget, the highest allocation has been done to the Education section at Rs 34,884 crore. Followed by Education, Rs 15,568 crore has been allocated to the Energy and Petrochemicals Department, Rs 14,297 crore to the Urban development, Rs 12,240 crore to Health and Family welfare, and Rs 12,024 crore to Road and Building Department. There were no new taxes imposed and the low salaried classes (up to 12,000 per month) were freed from paying the professional tax.

As per the speech given by Desai, he stated that this budget has been created to benefit over 15 lakhs people in Gujarat. Earlier, the Gujarat government used to deduct Rs. 80 and Rs. 150 from the salary bracket of Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,999 and Rs 9,000 to Rs 11,999 respectively. However, this relief given to the people will make a dent of approx 108 crores in the income of the state. In the budget, Rs. 500 crores have been allocated to a new scheme: Mukhyamantri Gau Mata Poshan Yojna which is meant to provide financial assistance to the cow shelters.
