In Gujarat, more than 50% of students are waiting for the NAMO (New Avenues of Modern education) tablet which was about to be distributed by the state government. There is barely three months left for the academic session to commence and the state government officials are blaming students for their late registration. However, there is actually a 9 months delay in the distribution of NAMO tablets in the third year of its scheme.

As per the data shared by the Bhupen-drasinh Chudasama, the Education Minister in an assembly, only 1,50,785 students out of total 3,09,651 students have been distributed the tablet, which leaves over 50% of students without the tablet distribution. As per the 2017-18 budget of the state government, the government announced to distribute the NAMO tablets at Rs. 1,000 rather than their real price of 7000-8000, for the students who have cleared 10+2 in the year 2017-18 and are presently in their diploma/graduation degree.

In context to the delay in the tablet distribution, Anju Sharma, the Principal Secretary of Education) said that the main reason of the delay is late registration by the students because even after the delivery, the clearance and other formalities take time. Furthermore, he also added that the remaining students will be distributed the NAMO tablets within the upcoming month.
In regards to the opposition’s allegation on the prices of the tablets, the state government issued a statement in which Chief Minister Vijay Rupani stated that a transparent global tender process is followed to check about the specification of the tablets before distributing it to the students.
