The Gujarat Government has declared that SC/ST category students who have enrolled for admission in courses not covered under the Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC) will be currently eligible to avail scholarships. According to a government release, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel made the decision in the state cabinet meeting on Wednesday keeping in mind the larger interests of the students.
SC/ST category students who undertook admission in courses approved and covered under the FRC were eligible to avail scholarships till now. As per the new announcement, SC/SC category students taking admission in non-FRC courses under private colleges and universities will also be eligible to avail government scholarships under the Freeship Card Scheme, as per the release.

The statement mentioned that the decision will prove to be of significant help for nearly 6,000 SC students and 12,000 ST category students. The government will devote Rs.36 crores towards the scholarships.
The CM also reviewed the culminating preparations going on for the forthcoming Garib Kalyan Melas in the cabinet meeting which is meant to take place in various parts of the state from 24th-26th February 2022.
The CM further informed that the concerned departments have given a final structure to the state budget which will be presented in the state Assembly on 3rd March 2022.
