Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology or IIEST Shibpur is planning to offer a dual degree programme, i.e., B.Tech and M.Tech. The interesting thing is that students will get degrees from two institutes. The main objective of varsity to launch dual degree programme is to enable students to continue M.Tech course instead of opting out after the completion of the final year of B.Tech course. On the other hand, students will get scholarships if they clear GATE examination.

Director of IIEST Shibpur, Ajay Kumar Roy revealed that the proposal would be placed before the senate which is the highest decision-making body. As a part of this programme, the students who are pursuing the sixth semester will be asked to make a choice.
For launching dual degree programme, IIEST has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of California. The institute is also working consistently to sign MoUs with IITs and various other universities abroad. Through this programme, the students will get B.Tech degree from IIEST and M.Tech degree from other institution. Students will have a total number of 10 semesters out of which eight semesters will be at IIEST and two semesters will be at another institute.

With an objective to attract a high number of students to take up five-year integrated M.Tech programme, IIEST is planning to give scholarships. Those who opt for integrated M.Tech course will get scholarships from MHRD ministry. However, they need to clear GATE examination before seventh-semester. The students who continue their ninth and tenth semesters will have a chance to pursue them in any of the institutes that IIEST has signed MoU.
