The IIIT project which was scheduled to start functioning in Raichur, Karnataka this year due to unavailability of land shifted to Hyderabad, Telangana. The classes of IIIT will be conducted in the IIT campus of Hyderabad.
There has been stiff competition between Telangana and Karnataka over important projects. Yet again, one of the important projects went to Telangana and not Karnataka. However, Government of Karnataka says that this is just a temporary transfer and the IIIT campus will soon be shifted to Raichur, Karnataka.
There was a plan to set up any big institution in Raichur as the region is highly neglected. Hence, the Central Government planned for setting up IIIT in Raichur. On 24 January 2018, the centre issued a notification to allocate IIIT at Raichur. However, the land was not available and the campus shifted to IIT Hyderabad campus as there was no time to build a separate campus for the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT).
The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad campus has an excellent infrastructure facility. Hence, shifting the campus there is quite beneficial for the students as they will get the latest facilities.
